At a Glance! The Assistant Director for Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion will champion efforts towards the Associated Students of LCC’s (ASLCC) goal to create a more equitable, inclusive, and diverse environment where all students feel a sense of belonging and achieve individual success. This position is a leader and change agent who will develop, enhance, support, and implement critically important student support resources. Responsibilities will include establishing student-focused DEI support services, managing the diversity and equity center, and developing programs that support student retention and engagement.

Who you are: The Assistant Director will have a strong passion for disrupting systemic barriers and supporting diverse individuals, demonstrate a deep understanding of DEI best practices, and possess exceptional interpersonal and communication skills. The Assistant Director is a strategic catalyst who enjoys innovating and collaborating with others.

The Assistant Director position is 40 hours per week, typically Monday through Friday, 8 am to 5 pm, but includes nights, weekends, and overnight student travel as the program necessitates. This position provides direct student support and is primarily on-site, with limited ability to work remote/hybrid. This position is exempt under FLSA and reports to the Executive Director of Diversity, Equity, & Inclusion.

Examples of Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Oversee and support student DEI initiatives, including the oversight and maintenance of the Diversity and Equity Center.
  • Co-advise and partner with the ASLCC Diversity and Equity Director to develop programming.
  • Develop and implement a year-round programming model focused on cultural, interpersonal, and identity issues.
  • Establish a sense of inclusion and belonging in the Diversity and Equity Center.
  • Provide support and serve as a visible ally to our campus community.
  • Facilitate conversations around various equity & inclusion topics with students.
  • Support the Executive Director in developing and evaluating the DEI strategic plan.
  • Serve on the Diversity & Equity Committee and collaborate with the DEI Committee.
  • Develop and maintain an inventory of DEI resources for students.
  • Prepare and disseminate information on equity-related initiatives and outcomes.
  • Build quality community partnerships to support DEI work at LCC.
  • Meet regularly with the student government to provide updates and discuss initiatives.
  • Serve as a search advocate on hiring committees.
  • May serve as the co-advisor to identity-based student clubs and organizations.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in related field OR additional education may substitute for required experience.
  • Demonstrated commitment to promote inclusive excellence and equity.
  • Two (2) years of related experience around diversity, equity, and inclusion initiatives.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Leadership skills.
  • Proficiency in computer programs/software.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Master’s degree in related field.
  • Experience in higher education.
  • Bilingual (Spanish & English).
  • DEI training certificate(s).

Conditions of Employment:

  • Proof of identity and documentation of U.S. citizenship or legal authorization required.

  • If bilingual in Spanish, a proficiency test may be required for additional salary.
