Vital is looking for a passionate backend engineer to join us on our mission to revolutionise how healthcare is delivered today.
Vital is an API for at-home health data, and we are making it easy for developers to build virtual-first healthcare apps on top of our platform. We have built a wearables API and at-home test kit API and our current docs can be found at docs.tryvital.io.
We are a seed-funded startup backed by some of the best investors like Y Combinator.
This is a fully remote position. However, you must be able to provide at least 4 hours of business overlap with GMT . We are not offering any visa sponsorships at this time.
Some of the early challenges you could be working on:
- Building a scalable fault-tolerant backend that can handle large amounts of data and the complexity of 50+ 3rd party API integrations. We are at roughly 100 requests / second with more than half a million users generating data.
- Building direct integrations to wearable devices and at-home remote patient monitoring devices.

- Python (Fast API), Typescript, React, React Native, Swift, GCP.
You'll be a good fit if...
- You like to wear many hats. We are a small team, with a lot of things yet to be figured out. You are comfortable operating in such an environment.
- You are comfortable with owning features and being the driving force behind them. We don’t have Product Managers. Engineers are responsible for managing their work.
- You care about the outcomes, rather than outputs.
Requirements
- Highly proficient with Python. You have 2 to 3 years of professional experience using Python. You likely know other languages.
- Proficient with Postgres.
- Experience working with data-intensive backends.
- Have good communication skills. You will interact with customers directly and on a daily basis.
Nice to have
- Experienced with GCP.
- Experience working in fast-paced environments.
