SUMMARY

Supports the bank's innovation management program recognized as First Interstate Innovation Labs, ensuring it meets regulatory requirements and enables agile execution of innovation efforts. Collaborates with stakeholders to identify and develop technology-enabled innovation opportunities aligned with business strategy, support digital transformation, and help lead R&D activities. The role involves building a network of third parties, establishing fusion teams, and continuing to evolve the innovation management program. Researches emerging technology trends and provides thought leadership on new product delivery and business model changes. Creative problem-solver with a strong understanding of how business objectives influence technology strategies.

Reports to the Director of EA and Innovation and leads and supports activities that guide the development and execution of innovation management at First Interstate Bank.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES include the following: other duties may be assigned.

The Innovation Architect will demonstrate competencies across three key dimensions:

Supports the development and ongoing operation of the bank's innovation capability

  • Creates and evolves the framework to evaluate, assess and present Proof of Concept (POC) results.
  • Evolves the innovation framework as required to enable incremental improvements to bank operations. Ensures that the framework addresses necessary regulatory requirements and provides an agile approach to quickly execute POCs.
  • Builds and expands a sustainable network of 3rd parties to be leveraged to understand and execute innovation opportunities.
  • Evolves the framework to establish fusion teams that will be responsible for idea generation and proof of concept development and testing.
  • Further develops the governance model and establishes processes with the Director of EA & Innovation and Enterprise Planning to enable innovation management as a core competency of the bank.
  • Evolves the innovation program as the bank grows to increase productivity.

Supports the bank's enterprise strategy

  • Works with the director of EA & Innovation, EA peers, enterprise planning and business stakeholders to identify business and technology-enabled innovation opportunities that enable and drive business strategy.
  • Works with technology partners (internal & external) to develop technology prototypes used to demonstrate technology capabilities and feasibility.
  • Supports digital transformational activities across IT and business organizations.
  • Leads emerging technology evaluation/due diligence and conduct R&D activities by partnering with strategic technology platform providers and relevant lines of business.
  • Assists in developing strategic technology capabilities in alignment with enterprise strategies and business goals, values, and vision in the delivery of functions & services across all business units.
  • Supports the Enterprise Innovation, Solutions, & Architecture organization's IT architecture delivery function.
  • Guides the organization to focus on the most important and relevant innovation activities, initiatives and support given its strategic direction.
  • Collaborates with other architects and technology teams to provide direction and design in an Agile environment.

Enables organizational change

  • Researches and provides information on emerging technology trends and disruptions and competitors' practices relevant to our lines of business.
  • Designs and architects scalable and distributed solutions leveraging innovative approaches (Innovation orchestration).
  • Provides thought leadership and recommendations on innovative approaches to delivering new products and business model changes.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Individuals in this role are creative, able to think outside of the box, problem solvers, and demonstrate thought leadership.
  • Solid grasp of how business objectives, drivers, and architecture principles relate to and influence technology strategies and roadmaps.
  • Ability to communicate innovative ideas and craft strategic solutions.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with a broad range of constituencies.
  • Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers and the general public.
  • Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions. Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables.

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE

  • Bachelor's Degree in Information Technology, Business Administration, or a related discipline.
  • 4-6 years in applicable work experience could include time in an innovation role, experience with technology and digital transformation, collaboration and networking experience, governance and process development experience, thought leadership and experience in an agile environment.
  • Experience in engaging and working with 3rd parties to execute initiatives is a plus.

COMPENSATION & BENEFITS

We offer a competitive total compensation package including base salary and benefits. The anticipated pay range for this position is $105,280 to $173,711 per year (in CO & WA), and depends on a variety of non-discriminatory factors including, but not limited to, job-related knowledge, skills and experience, education, and geographic location. Additionally, this role is eligible to receive annual discretionary cash bonuses. Benefits available for this position include, but are not limited to, medical, dental, vision, short-term and long-term disability benefits and life insurance, flexible spending accounts, health savings account, employee assistance program, 401(k), Paid Time Off (new hires accrue at .069 per hours worked which equates to approximately 18 days per year inclusive of paid sick time) and up to 11 paid Federal holidays.
