This opportunity is in the Claims Department.


Our Claims department oversees both high-exposure workers' compensation and liability claims. As an unbundled carrier, we work actively with third-party administrators (TPAs) and self-administered accounts to assist in guiding claims to a successful resolution. As an excess carrier, the catastrophic claims we handle keep our group challenged, but the uniqueness provides plenty of growth opportunities.


Role Description:


In the role of Claims Strategy & Operations Director you will be responsible for structured problem solving, performance trend analysis, efficient workflow management, and project management. The position will have high visibility within the department and within the company. The position works closely with the Workers Compensation Leadership team to formulate, develop, and execute short and long-term planning to achieve Department goals.


Your day-to-day responsibilities as Claims Strategy & Operations Director will include:



  • Problem Solving: Lead & manage monthly/quarterly problem solving for the WC Claims Department - providing periodic updates on current key areas of opportunity, recommended changes, status of resolution, and resource need.

  • Thought Leadership: Provide thought leadership within the leadership team and department in regards to strategy, innovation, efficiency, customer service, and employee engagement.

  • Efficiency/Workflow Management:

    • Best Practices & Polices/Procedures

    • Efficiency Opportunities- Identify within standard work and elevate to leadership team

    • Facilitate proactive communication/collaboration with all LOBs and other departments



  • Performance Trend Analysis: Provide trending, analysis, and recommendations on key KPIs on a monthly and quarterly basis. Work closely with VP and department management to early identify emerging trends or areas of concern in order to facilitate mitigation or problem solving.

  • Goal Performance: Assist the VP and leadership team in assessing goal performance and setting of annual goals. Ensure goals appropriately cascade from the department, unit, and individual where appropriate.

  • Compliance: Be the WC Claims' subject matter expert resource for Corporate Compliance. Work with Compliance on State compliance exams, penalty exposures, or workflow issues.

Qualifications:


Education:



  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent work experience preferred


Required:



  • At least seven years' experience in workers compensation claims.

  • Skilled with Excel, PowerPoint, SharePoint, and PowerBI.

  • Strong presentation skills and comfortable presenting to small and large groups.


Preferred:



  • Leadership experience and/or experience in managing catastrophic or excess losses a plus.

  • Project management experience a plus.

It is anticipated that most qualified candidates will fall near the middle of this range. Compensation for the successful candidate will consider the candidate's particular combination of knowledge, skills, competencies, and experience.
