Position Overview: The Activity Director is responsible for planning, implementing, and overseeing a comprehensive activity program that enhances the physical, mental, and emotional well-being of our residents. This role involves creating a vibrant and engaging environment that promotes social interaction, mental stimulation, and physical activity, tailored to the diverse needs and interests of our residents.
Key Responsibilities:
- Program Planning: Develop and execute a varied schedule of individual and group activities that cater to the interests and abilities of residents. Ensure activities are designed to promote resident engagement and well-being.
- Activity Implementation: Lead and facilitate activities such as arts and crafts, games, music sessions, exercise classes, and special events. Encourage resident participation and adapt activities to accommodate different levels of ability.
- Resident Engagement: Build strong relationships with residents to understand their preferences and needs. Use this information to tailor activity programs and ensure all residents are included and engaged.
- Documentation and Reporting: Maintain accurate records of resident participation and feedback. Prepare and submit regular reports on activity outcomes and program effectiveness.
- Collaboration: Work closely with the nursing and care staff to integrate activity programs with overall care plans. Collaborate with families and community organizations to enhance the activity program.
- Safety and Compliance: Ensure all activities are conducted in a safe environment and comply with facility policies and regulatory requirements. Address any safety concerns promptly.
Qualifications:
- Education: Bachelor’s degree in Recreation Therapy, Leisure Studies, or a related field preferred. Certification in Activity or Recreation Therapy is a plus.
- Experience: Minimum of 2 years’ experience in activity planning and implementation, preferably in a long-term care or senior living setting.
- Skills: Strong organizational and leadership skills. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills. Ability to create and adapt activities to suit various levels of physical and cognitive abilities.
- Personal Attributes: Compassionate, patient, and enthusiastic with a genuine interest in enhancing the quality of life for seniors. Creative and proactive in finding new ways to engage residents.
