Your Career
Help build what is next. You will be responsible for the design and development of a scalable distributed management plane infrastructure to manage Palo Alto Networks’ next-generation network security solutions.
Sr. Principal Software Engineers Are
- Technical experts that help accelerate adoption of the very best engineering practices, while maintaining knowledge on industry innovations, trends and practices

- Leaders who can communicate cogently with hands-on engineers
- Hands-on engineers that can code and build great products
- Conceptualize, Collaborate and Develop highly scalable Network Management System for managing devices at scale in hybrid deployments
- Define and scope new features for building and improving Logging and Telemetry infrastructure
- Hands-on participation in developing next generation Configuration Management architecture
- Technical leadership and end-to-end delivery of solutions in collaboration with cross-functional product management, development and quality assurance teams in a fast paced environment
- Work with Technical Support teams to investigate and resolve critical customer defects
- Recruit and Mentor new team members
Your Experience
- 14+ years of experience in building large enterprise applications required - 3+ years experience in technical leadership roles in building major apps or subsystems
- Experience managing large scale data in a high-performance distributed appliance deployment
- Track record of improving performance and throughput with limited resources is a plus
- Experience programming in C/C++ is required - Python is a plus
- Experience working with commonly used infrastructure tools like Zookeeper, Kafka, Redis, Elasticsearch is a plus
- Familiarity with building the data and logging platform - ingesting, processing, and analyzing of logs
- Familiarity with model-driven telemetry, pub-sub architecture, and vendor-specific and open-source options to handling telemetry is a plus
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
- Proven ability to lead and collaborate with many cross-functional teams with an emphasis on end-to-end delivery
- Experience in the full software development life cycle, including coding standards, code reviews, source control management, build processes, testing, peer review, and operations
- Experience building network and security configuration management systems is highly desirable
- Experience building appliance based network management solutions is highly desirable
- B.S. degree in Computer Science or equivalent required or equivalent military experience

The compensation offered for this position will depend on qualifications, experience, and work location. For candidates who receive an offer at the posted level, the starting base salary (for non-sales roles) or base salary + commission target (for sales/commissioned roles) is expected to be between $190,000/yr to $250,000/yr.
