ORGANIZATION

Heartland Farms is farming about 27,000 irrigated acres and has been experiencing year-over-year growth. Heartland Farms produces many different types of chipping potatoes as well as potatoes that go to supermarkets and head off to your home. It currently ships chipping and fresh market potatoes from their Wisconsin operation from August through June of the following year. It has storage capacity for over 5,500,000 hundredweight (Cwt) and can ship out up to 120 semi-truck loads per day! Other crops produced are sweet corn, canning peas, green beans, and soybeans. All vegetable crops are sold to Wisconsin food processors.

Position overview

The Director of Human Resources (HR) will be a pivotal part of Heartland Farms' leadership team, helping to craft and execute human capital strategies that align with the company's mission and values. The Director of HR will be asked to spend as much time on-site and amongst the team as possible.

The Director of HR role will involve engaging employees in developing performance metrics, designing impactful training programs, and enhancing recruitment efforts. They will act as a trusted advisor to other departments, building strong internal relationships to identify and meet their needs. The Director of HR will also collaborate with benefits providers to design and implement programs that enhance team members' overall experience.

Key Responsibilities

Strategic Human Capital Management:

  1. Develop and implement human capital strategies that support the company's growth and align with its core values.
  2. Lead initiatives that promote a positive work environment and high employee engagement.
  3. Monitor and analyze HR metrics to identify trends, develop insights, and inform strategic decisions.

Employee Engagement and Development:

  1. Collaborate with team members to build performance metrics that drive individual and organizational success.
  2. Design and implement comprehensive training and development programs to enhance employee skills and career growth.
  3. Foster a culture of continuous learning and improvement, ensuring employees are engaged and motivated.

Recruitment and Talent Acquisition:

  1. Oversee recruitment strategies to attract top talent that fits our company culture and values.
  2. Build partnerships with educational institutions, industry groups, and community organizations to enhance recruiting efforts.
  3. Implement innovative approaches to sourcing, screening, and selecting candidates.

Internal Relationship Building:

  1. Act as a strategic partner to other departments, treating them as internal customers.
  2. Build and maintain strong relationships with department leaders to understand their needs and provide tailored HR support.
  3. Facilitate open communication and collaboration across all levels of the organization.

Qualifications & EXPERIENCE

  1. Bachelor's degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, or a related field; a Master’s degree is preferred.
  2. 10+ years of progressive HR experience, with at least 5 years in a leadership role.
  3. Proven track record of developing and implementing HR strategies that drive business success.
  4. Strong understanding of HR best practices, labor laws, and compliance requirements.
  5. Exceptional interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to build relationships and influence at all levels of the organization.
  6. Demonstrated ability to manage multiple priorities, projects, and deadlines with a high degree of accuracy and attention to detail.
  7. Passion for employee engagement, development, and fostering a positive work culture.
  8. Experience working with HR systems and analytics to drive strategic decision-making.
