Responsibilities:
Reporting to the Chief Operating Officer (COO), the position is responsible for executing the New York Blood Center Enterprises (NYBCe) strategy for the Mid-Atlantic Region (BBD and RIBC). The role will ensure coordination of regional efforts with the centralized enterprise functions to attain the short and long-term objectives and KPIs of the region. The VP, Regional Operations will support NYBCe stature as “best in class” by achieving strategic goals and driving tangible, measurable outcomes in donor recruitment, growing collections and improving the donor experience.
This position is charged with overseeing day-to-day operations, leading the local teams responsible for donor recruitment, collections, and attaining inventory targets in an innovative, cost-effective, donor/customer-focused, and regulatory compliant manner.
The VP, Regional Operations will join the B&LO Senior Leadership Team, will be the enterprise ambassador for NYBCe in the Mid-Atlantic region, and will represent the enterprise at official events and meetings with community leaders.
The home site is RIBC (Providence, RI) or BBD (Newark, DE). Minimum one week on-site presence required monthly at the non-home site.
Strategy Development, Tactical Planning, and Execution:
- With the enterprise vision as the North Star, develops, communicates, and implements a roadmap to achieve the growth targets for the region.
- Establishes regional performance criteria, donor recruitment targets, and collection goals.
- Implements best practices, driving consistency in operational processes across the territory.
- Relentlessly pursues innovation and improvements in donor experience and customer service.
- Develops community & corporate relationships that increase awareness of the need for blood collections and support growth initiatives.
- Oversees and participates in strategic growth initiatives in alignment with annual operational performance and financial goals.
- Supports the financial budget, capacity planning, and optimization of resource allocation (FTEs, vehicles, collections equipment).
- Monitors expenses, identifies cost-saving opportunities, and optimizes resource utilization to maximize efficiency and productivity.
- Ensures compliance with regulatory requirements, company policies and SOPs, and industry best practices.
Matrix Partnership:
- Establishes credibility throughout the organization and within the B&LO Senior Leadership Team as an effective developer of solutions to business challenges.
- Partners closely with the Enterprise Donor Engagement (EDE) team to align on and support marketing, media, donor experience, and communications activities.
- Actively collaborates with enterprise functions such as Logistics, Supply Chain, IT, HR, Finance, Laboratory Services, Quality, Facilities and other departments to execute regional strategies and goals.
- Partners with matrix functions to drive excellence in collections operations.
Talent Development:
- Drives talent recruitment, development, and retention (in partnership with HR).
- Responsible for fostering a positive work environment and inspiring a culture in which employees deliver an exceptional donor experience and customer service.
Business Continuity and Crisis Management:
- Acts as the local Business Continuity Officer and leader in case of unexpected disruption to operations.
- Identifies business risks, runs scenarios, conducts feasibility analyses, communicates effectively to mitigate harm to all impacted personnel and company assets.
- Actively takes reasonable steps to mitigate the impact of a force majeure event in an unforeseeable catastrophe by immediately evaluating the situation and allocating resources appropriately.
- Actively updates senior leadership with appropriate level of escalation while keeping documentary records of different mitigation options considered and steps taken throughout the catastrophe remediation.
- Attends professional development seminars, conferences, and meetings as required.
- Engages in negotiations as necessary to de-escalate or resolve conflicts.
Qualifications:
Education:
- Bachelor’s degree in STEM, economics, business administration, or health administration. MBA preferred.
Experience:
- 15+ years of previous operations management experience in a healthcare, hospitality, or service sector.
- Experience overseeing multi-location, multi-state, customer-facing operations.
- Experience with designing, implementing, and optimizing operating models and organizational structures.
Travel: Ability to travel 25-30% including overnight stays.
Knowledge:
- Financial acumen, and a working knowledge of marketing and hospitality principles.
- Working knowledge of GMP regulations and FDA approval processes.
- Knowledge of computerized software applications such as MS Office.
- Strong command over MS Excel, MS PowerPoint, MS Project; familiarity with Tableau, Spotfire, and other analytical software packages a plus. Knowledge of Salesforce would be an advantage.

For applicants who will perform this position in Rhode Island, the annual salary is $285,000.00 to $290,000.00. Salary reflects local market rate and will be commensurate with the applicant’s skills, job-related knowledge, and experience.
