Job Summary

The IT Director plays a pivotal role in shaping the company’s technology landscape, ensuring that systems not only meet today’s operational needs but are also positioned for future growth. This leader will guide the evolution and optimization of critical technology areas from infrastructure and data management to cybersecurity, application ecosystems, and technology integration during acquisitions. They will oversee key performance indicators (KPIs) such as system uptime and response times to ensure the company meets business needs, identifies potential risk areas, and adheres to service-level agreements (SLAs). Collaborating closely with the CTO and other organizational leaders, the IT Director will balance innovative strategies with practical execution, fostering a technology environment that supports seamless operations and aligns with the company’s short-, medium-, and long-term goals. Additionally, they will lead and empower the IT team to thrive in an organization undergoing rapid growth and change.

General Responsibilities

Strategic Planning & Alignment:

  • Develop and implement the company’s short-, medium-, and long-term IT strategies, ensuring they align with overall business objectives.
  • Support key areas such as construction, project management, and field operations through technology initiatives.
  • Collaborate with senior leadership to identify technology needs and deliver solutions that enhance operational efficiency and competitiveness.
  • Translate business objectives into actionable IT projects that drive growth and innovation.

Infrastructure Management:

  • Lead the design, deployment, and maintenance of IT infrastructure, including network architecture, cloud services, and on-site construction tools.
  • Ensure systems are scalable, secure, and reliable to support a fast-growing employee base, including those in office, working hybrid, or at remote construction sites.
  • Manage the integration of technology during acquisitions, ensuring seamless alignment with existing systems.
  • Continuously evaluate infrastructure performance to identify areas for improvement and ensure readiness for future demands.

Cybersecurity & Compliance:

  • Lead cybersecurity efforts to protect company and project data, ensuring all systems meet industry-standard protocols.
  • Ensure compliance with data protection regulations and industry-specific requirements.
  • Develop disaster recovery and business continuity plans to minimize downtime during critical failures or emergencies. Run annual tabletop exercises for IT and the business to test, validate, and improve business continuity plans.
  • Proactively monitor and address cybersecurity risks, updating policies and providing regular staff training.

Field / Service Technology & Support:

  • Oversee the implementation and management of mobile and field/service technology solutions to ensure teams have the tools they need to work effectively.
  • Provide technical support and training for software, ensuring field and service teams can effectively use necessary tools.
  • Ensure systems are fully utilized to meet operational demands and minimize downtime.

Team Leadership & Vendor Management:

  • Lead, mentor, and develop the IT team, fostering a collaborative and adaptable environment.
  • Ensure the team is prepared to manage both in-house and field-based technology challenges.
  • Build and maintain relationships with third-party vendors for IT support, hardware procurement, and software licensing, ensuring they meet company needs.
  • Negotiate contracts and manage vendor performance to ensure cost-effective solutions.

Budgeting & Cost Control:

  • Manage the IT department budget, implementing cost-effective solutions that align with performance, security, and scalability requirements.
  • Track expenditures on hardware, software, network services, and personnel, ensuring alignment with financial goals.
  • Identify opportunities to optimize costs without compromising quality or system reliability.
  • Report regularly to senior leadership on budgetary performance and cost-saving initiatives.

Industry Expertise & Thought Leadership:

  • Stay current on industry trends, emerging technologies, and regulatory changes that may impact the company’s IT strategy.
  • Bring forward new ideas and technologies that drive operational efficiency and business growth.
  • Advise leadership on long-term technology investments and innovations that align with business objectives.
