Who We Are Looking For:
Purpose: To work with other technical members, partners, and vendors to deliver on the vision of CancerLinQ using big data technologies as envisaged by the Society’s Strategic Plan and the goals of the department. Remote candidates welcome or primary location in Alexandria, VA.
Responsibilities:
- Design and implementation of the data pipelines using Python, Spark, Airflow, and SQL
- Analyze product needs and recommend technology solutions. Cultivate cooperation and buy-in across CancerLinQ for proposed solutions
- Mentor software engineers on our codebase and frameworks
- Engineer subsystems to support complex features of the CancerLinQ solution
- Educate the Products team on evolving technology options and feasible product capabilities.
- Troubleshoot issues across components and modules
- Ensure expected levels of quality in all software that is delivered
- Document and communicate with technical and non-technical audiences
- Champion best practices for software development in the domain of big data engineering
- Improve the code frameworks to drive efficiency, quality, and security
- Responsible for safeguarding CancerLinQ-protected health information data and ensuring compliance with HIPAA standards, policies, and procedures.
Required Education and Experience:
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or related field, or equivalent years of experience
- 6 years of experience developing services, pipelines and databases using Python, JavaScript, Spark, and SQL
- 2 years of experience with Agile development methodologies and tools like git and JIRA
- 2 years of experience in healthcare technology
- 1 year of experience with other programming languages like Java/Scala, C++ or C#
- Thorough understanding and working knowledge of patient/client confidentiality issues and HIPAA compliance/regulations.
Preferred Education and Experience:
- Experience with healthcare technologies such as HL7, SNOMED, FHIR, ICD-10
Competencies:
- Ability to write clean, elegant, scalable, and secure code
- Proficient at troubleshooting complex, multi-threaded issues involving subsystem latency and failure
- Proficient at technical communication and communication of complex technologies to technical and non-technical stakeholders
- Ability to ensure data integrity and security
- Knowledge of secure programming practices and scalable designs
- Proficient with the tools and technologies we use including AWS, Spark, Redshift, Python, NodeJS, SQL
- Ability to break down large development tasks into components, work with other engineers on building the components and integrating the solution
- Understanding of the full engineering lifecycle from build, QA/QC to deployment and release into production
- Experience with common tools, GitHub, JIRA, Confluence, CircleCI, MS Teams
- Ability to quickly prototype solutions to assess technological and functional trade-offs and to make informed decisions about technological choices
- Ability to make trade-off decisions around time to market and features, around space and time complexities of algorithms, about upfront and ongoing costs of solutions

ADA/Physical Requirements:
Fast-paced office environment with extended periods seated or standing at a desk. High use of computer and other office technology equipment.
Travel:
1-10 days/yr of domestic travel that may require an overnight stay or multiple day trips.
