About AppleTree

With the mission of closing the achievement gap before students get to kindergarten, AppleTree focuses exclusively on Preschool and Pre-K education. We provide free, full-day public charter school programming for three- and four-year olds in 12 locations across Washington, DC, employing our innovative and award winning instructional model, called Every Child Ready (ECR). This instructional model provides educators with tools and resources for “What to Teach”, “How to Teach” and “How to Measure Success.” Our instructional model is also used with partners across the nation. We continuously test and improve this model through feedback from AppleTree educators, partners and other stakeholders to ensure that children are learning and exploring through play and appropriate instruction.

Position Summary:

The Social Media Intern will assist in developing and implementing social media strategies to engage students, parents, and the community. This role provides hands-on experience in social media management, content creation, and digital marketing.

What you’ll do:

  1. Create and curate visually appealing content in the form of posts, carousels, and reels.
  2. Schedule engaging content for various social media platforms (Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, etc.).
  3. Monitor social media channels and respond to comments and messages in a timely manner.
  4. Conduct research on current trends and best practices in social media and education.
  5. Help organize and promote school events and initiatives through social media.
  6. Analyze social media metrics and report on performance to guide future content strategies.
  7. Collaborate with network and school-based staff to highlight student achievements and school programs.
  8. Participate in brainstorming sessions for new campaign ideas.

What we’re looking for:

  1. Current college student pursuing a degree in Communications, Marketing, Public Relations, or a related field; Or recent graduate seeking an entry-level position.
  2. Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  3. Familiarity with social media platforms and their respective audiences.
  4. Creative mindset with an eye for design (basic graphic design skills are a plus).
  5. Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced environment.
  6. Enthusiasm for engaging with the school community and promoting positive narratives.
  7. Exceptional reliability, integrity, and ability to responsibly handle confidential information with discretion.
  8. Ability to make recommendations to effectively resolve problems by using sound, professional judgment that is consistent with policies, procedures, regulations, or federal and state laws.
  9. Ability to listen, influence, and execute through others while coordinating across a broad and diverse group of stakeholders.
  10. Belief in and commitment to the mission and core values of AppleTree Early Learning Public Charter School.

IMPORTANT: Per Mayor’s Order 2021-109, on-site staff are required to be fully vaccinated against COVID-19.
