The Hotel Chief Engineer ensures the efficient operation of all hotel facilities, including mechanical, electrical, plumbing, and HVAC systems. This role involves managing maintenance staff, ensuring compliance with safety standards, and developing maintenance plans to enhance guest experiences.


Key Responsibilities:


  • Maintenance Management : Oversee the maintenance and repair of all hotel facilities, including guest rooms, public areas, and back-of-house areas.
  • Team Leadership : Supervise and train the engineering staff, scheduling and assigning work tasks to ensure timely completion.
  • Safety Compliance : Ensure all equipment and systems comply with local, state, and federal regulations and safety standards.
  • Budget Management : Assist in preparing and managing the maintenance budget, controlling costs while ensuring quality service.
  • Emergency Response : Develop and implement emergency response procedures for various situations, including fire and water damage.
  • Energy Management : Implement energy conservation measures and sustainability practices to reduce the hotel’s environmental impact.
  • Vendor Relations : Coordinate with outside contractors for specialized repairs and maintenance services.
  • Preventive Maintenance : Establish and oversee a preventive maintenance program to minimize equipment failures and downtime.
  • Guest Interaction : Address guest complaints related to maintenance issues promptly and professionally.
  • Reporting : Maintain accurate records of maintenance activities, repairs, and expenditures.


Qualifications:

  • Experience : Minimum of 5 years of experience in facilities management, with a strong background in hotel operations.
  • Technical Skills : Knowledge of electrical, mechanical, and plumbing systems, as well as HVAC operations.
  • Problem-Solving Skills : Excellent troubleshooting and problem-solving capabilities.
  • Communication Skills : Effective verbal and written communication skills.


Work Environment:

The Chief Engineer works in a hotel setting, which may require on-call availability for emergencies. The role may involve physical tasks and the use of various tools and equipment.
