Minimum Qualifications:

  • 5+ years of technical product or program management experience
  • 7+ years of working directly with engineering teams experience
  • 3+ years of software development experience
  • 5+ years of technical program management working directly with software engineering teams experience
  • Experience managing programs across cross functional teams, building processes and coordinating release schedules
  • 5+ years of project management disciplines including scope, schedule, budget, quality, along with risk and critical path management experience
  • Experience managing projects across cross functional teams, building sustainable processes and coordinating release schedules
  • Experience defining KPI's/SLA's used to drive multi-million dollar businesses and reporting to senior leadership

Deliver delightful and innovative shopping experiences for Amazon customers everywhere. You will work directly with design, product, and technical leaders to build, test, deliver, and maintain new user experiences and technology initiatives that improve the shopping experience.


Key Job Responsibilities:

  • Manage the lifecycle of complex cross-functional initiatives that have significant impact on the customer experience, supporting a team of builders that anchor on principles of experimentation, design fidelity, and learning from customers.
  • Drive clarity on ambiguous business problems, designing program strategies and technical solutions where they may not yet be defined.
  • Work closely with design, product, and engineering leaders to translate business needs into realistic and achievable plans.
  • Identify and close the gap between teams, processes, and system architectures. Work across teams and systems owners to influence roadmap priorities, product feature decisions, and engineering processes.
  • Negotiate resources and priorities to accelerate progress and unblock teams, finding paths forward in difficult situations.
  • Serve as a subject matter expert that effectively communicates progress and strategic decisions to a diverse set of stakeholders.
  • Understand and champion your teams' work, making trade-offs between short-term needs and long-term sustainability.
  • Streamline processes and increase operational efficiency, aligning teams toward simple, coherent technology strategies and cross-organizational structures.
  • Design and build mechanisms to ensure the team's work maintains the highest standards of quality, scalability, and operational excellence.

A Day in the Life:

As the Sr. Technical Program Manager for the Shopping Design Tech team, your days are focused on managing the lifecycle of complex cross-functional initiatives that have significant impact on the customer shopping experience.

You start your morning reviewing the latest sprint planning and exception requests with your product and design partners. You dive into technical document reviews, predicting and triaging any defects that could impact the team's projects. Throughout the day, you monitor the health and reliability of your team's systems, designing hands-free auditing mechanisms that maintain operational excellence.

In the afternoon, you shift your focus outward, working across teams and systems owners to influence roadmap priorities, product feature decisions, and engineering processes. You negotiate resources and priorities, unblocking teams and finding paths forward through difficult situations. As a subject matter expert, you communicate progress and strategic decisions to a diverse set of stakeholders.

As the day winds down, you look for opportunities to streamline processes, sketching approaches to simplify and cohere technology strategies. You step into the shoes of a designer, adopting a customer-centric mindset to reflect on how to build programs and processes that help your teams build magical shopping experiences for customers everywhere.

The mission of the Shopping Design Tech team is to build magical shopping experiences that customers use daily and love. We are part of a group that includes product, tech, and design leaders who design the Amazon shopping experience for customers. We build the features that make it easy for customers to discover, evaluate, and transact on Amazon. We enable Amazon builders with design patterns, systems, tools, and best practices to design a cohesive and delightful shopping CX.

Our compensation reflects the cost of labor across several US geographic markets. The base pay for this position ranges from $133,900/year in our lowest geographic market up to $231,400/year in our highest geographic market. Pay is based on a number of factors including market location and may vary depending on job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. Amazon is a total compensation company.
