We seek a software architect to help us create systems to enhance an autonomous system's understanding of the world from a diverse range of fused information sources, pattern recognition (ML/DL) algorithms, and reasoning engines. Our team works with multiple government agencies to ensure our military and first-responders have groundbreaking AI-enabled tools to enhance their ability to respond to emerging threats anywhere in the world.
As a real-world AI software architect...
- Your primary responsibility is to keep abreast of industry developments in support of selecting and deploying technologies in our groundbreaking real-world AI-based product.
- You will work with a skilled team of engineers and scientists to plan and design robust systems to enable the rapid information flow and analysis required for a real-world AI system to carry out its tasks.
- You will design both towards assuring actual security and to support security requirements.
- You will track progress of and guide the various sub-teams to support system development, design, and goals.
- You will get your hands dirty coding (C++, CMake, build servers, Linux).
Qualifications
You meet our minimum qualifications for the job if you have...
- A B.S. degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Computer Engineering, Mathematics, or a related field.
- 5+ years of experience in systems programming (C++, C#, Java, etc.).
- Strong information technology skills.
- Familiarity with system deployment.
- Experience with Continuous Integration and Continuous Deployment technologies.
- Excellent verbal and written communication abilities.
- Demonstrated success leading in a team environment.
- Thrive in a dynamic project environment with evolving technologies and problem sets.
- Able to obtain a Top Secret security clearance. If selected, you will be subject to a government security clearance investigation and must meet the requirements for access to classified information. Eligibility requirements include U.S. citizenship.

- Have an M.S. degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Computer Engineering, Mathematics, or a related field.
- 8+ years of experience working with systems programming languages.
- 3+ years architecting systems.
- Experience with data science and machine learning programming.
- Ability to laugh at the phrase 'neuromorphics enabled.'
- Experience with information assurance.
- Experience with C++, C#, Rust, Go, etc.
- Experience with CMake, vcpkg, Gitlab CI.
- Experience with wrangling many containerized services.
- Experience with multiple flavors of Linux.
- Experience interacting with government customers.
- Full-stack experience.
- Machine/Deep Learning or analytics development experience.
- Hold an active Top Secret security clearance.

The referenced pay range is based on JHU APL's good faith belief at the time of posting. Actual compensation may vary based on factors such as geographic location, work experience, market conditions, education/training, and skill level with consideration for internal parity. For salaried employees scheduled to work less than 40 hours per week, annual salary will be prorated based on the number of hours worked. APL may offer bonuses or other forms of compensation per internal policy and/or contractual designation. Additional compensation may be provided in the form of a sign-on bonus, relocation benefits, locality allowance, or discretionary payments for exceptional performance. APL provides eligible staff with a comprehensive benefits package including retirement plans, paid time off, medical, dental, vision, life insurance, short-term disability, long-term disability, flexible spending accounts, education assistance, and training and development.
