Faith Formation Program Director
The Faith Formation Program Director is a full-time, 12 months a year position. The Director reports directly to the pastor. As a member of the parish pastoral team, the Faith Formation Program Director works with other staff members to foster and maintain a working environment where worship, prayer, hospitality and learning are the primary motivators.
The Faith Formation Program Director is a professional catechetical leader who assists adults, adolescents and children of the parish in all aspects of faith formation.
Responsibilities
The responsibilities of the Faith Formation Program Director include:
- Children’s Faith Formation Program
The Faith Formation Program Director is responsible for the administration (design, development, direction, communication and evaluation) of the Children’s Faith Formation Program for the parish children (grades 1-8) who attend public or non-Catholic private schools.
Essential Duties:
- Oversees the development of the Children’s Faith Formation Program, grades 1 through 8, in conformity with the guidelines of the Archdiocese of Detroit.
- Schedules faith formation opportunities for children and parents within the Faith Formation Program calendar year.
- Provides access and inclusion for children with special learning needs.
- Researches and requisitions resources (AV, textbooks, liturgy materials, reference works, etc.) which complement the children’s faith formation efforts in the parish.
- Ensures that the Safe Environment requirements, policies, and mandates for parish volunteers are in compliance with the Office of Safe Environments.
- Obtains approval and support from the pastor for the general direction of the Faith Formation Program in the parish.
- Recruits, orients and provides ongoing professional training and spiritual development for the Parish Faith Formation catechists.
- Oversees department budget for all expenses related to the Parish Faith Formation Program. Follows the budgetary procedures as set by the pastor, parish finance committee and/or parish business management.
- Sacramental Preparation
The Faith Formation Program Director oversees the coordination and sacramental preparation of parish school-age candidates who attend the Children’s Faith Formation Program.
- Schedules at the pastor’s directives dates for First Reconciliation, First Holy Communion and Confirmation.
- Designs, develops, directs and evaluates a comprehensive family centered sacrament preparation program including prayer, retreat and service opportunities.
- Prepares the liturgy (with the pastor and associate) for First Reconciliation, Holy Communion and Confirmation.
- Order of Christian Initiation for Adults and Children
- Coordinates and oversees catechetical plans for adults seeking full initiation into the Catholic Church through the Order of Christian Initiation for Adults (OCIA).
- Coordinates catechetical plans for adults baptized Catholic or validly baptized in another ecclesial community who are seeking full reception into the Church.
- Coordinates catechetical needs for children over the age of seven who seek baptism in the Catholic Church.
- Coordinates catechetical plans for older baptized Catholic children or teens who seek the reception of First Reconciliation, First Holy Communion and/or Confirmation.
- Adult Faith Formation Program
- Assists in the development and execution of Adult Faith Formation opportunities such as guest speakers and evangelization programs in collaboration with pastor and pastoral staff.
Additional Responsibilities
- Attends staff meetings, vicariate and archdiocesan meetings pertaining to discipleship formation.
- Maintains ongoing communication with parishioners across all ages.
- Manages Faith Formation Program staff which currently includes a part-time Administrative Assistant.
- Oversees coordination of parish Sunday School program for children ages 3, 4 and 5.
Skills and Qualifications
- Master’s degree in theology, religious studies, pastoral ministry or related field.
- Archdiocesan certification in Religious Education.
- Extensive experience in Faith Formation and program management.
- Practicing Catholic in good standing, willing to uphold Catholic moral teachings, and lead a life consistent with the Catholic faith.
- Knowledge and understanding of the Catholic Church, its Mission to Unleash the Gospel, and Family of Parishes.
- Computer literate and able to learn the parish data system program (ParishSOFT).
- Knowledgeable in Microsoft Office.
- Excellent language and communication skills required.
- Must be a practicing Catholic in good standing.
