POSITION SUMMARY: Primary responsibilities as a dispatcher will be to receive incoming ambulance call reports for the emergency department, receive request and schedule transports for hospital owned ambulances, receive request and schedule transports for patients being discharged from UNC Health SE requiring ambulance transportation, receive request for referrals and transfers to UNC Health SE connecting appropriate departments and arranging transportation to UNC Health SE.
Secondary responsibility if needed will be to fill in as an EMT who, under the guidance of the Critical Care Transport Manager, the Medical Director and the Director of Emergency Services, functions as an EMT. This candidate will perform a variety of activities associated with UNC Health SE Ambulance Service.
EDUCATION, CREDENTIALS, TRAINING and EXPERIENCE:
Minimum Required: High school diploma, completion of an approved Emergency Medical Technician program, with current certification to
practice as an EMT in North Carolina.
Incumbent must possess strong communication skills, verbal skills, and excellent customer service skills. Incumbent must be proficient in the
use of keyboard and basic computer applications. BLS certification.
If functioning as an EMT with Hospital owned ambulance service incumbent must be 25 years old with a good driving record.
Preferred: One year of field experience as an EMT. Dispatch or Call taker experience preferred.
ADDITIONAL SPECIALIZED KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS: Extended periods of sitting is required. The possession of good interpersonal skills and good verbal, written, and electronic communications skills as well as proficiency with basic computer skills and familiarity with internet & email are required. Incumbent must demonstrate competence in the use of equipment and application of procedures before being allowed to perform independently. Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to speak effectively using the radio and telephone.
Ability to respond to and manage common inquiries or complaints from customers, regulatory agencies or members of the medical community.
Ability to write reports that conform to prescribed style and format. Ability to effectively present information to co-workers, field
providers, supervisors, managers and administrators. Ability to listen actively and comprehend the meaning of communications with all parties.
