Join us.Job DescriptionAECOM is seeking an experienced GIS Manager in Roanoke, VA. This individual will be responsible for the day-to-day supervision of GIS specialists and analysts who produce geospatial data using Esri’s ArcGIS suite of products and underlying databases.Job Summary:Responsible for directing the daily activities of a staff that supports a specialized GIS environment. The team may include GIS specialists, analysts, GIS programmers, cartographers, database managers, system administrators, field data technicians and GIS interns.Directing the planning, design, maintenance, and production of departmental or major division geospatial data and maps.Responsible for managing budgets, expenditures and project costs.Conferring with departmental managers to ascertain their geospatial information needs is a significant aspect of the work.Work includes responsibility for managing the production of geospatial data, open data, maps, publications, graphics, and presentation material.Develop, manage, and coordinate GIS and geospatial projects.Analyze complex problems, evaluate alternatives, and make sound, well-structured recommendations.Prepare and present clear and well-organized written and oral reports to the executive team and other groups as required.Establish and maintain effective working relationships with, peers, superiors, vendor representatives and clients.Establish and maintain effective working relationships with staff, contractors, other professionals and the general public.Plan, organize, supervise, review, and evaluate the work of GIS project team staff in a manner that is conducive to independent judgment, high performance and personal accountabilityPlan, manage, and implement GIS related projects, assess progress and make appropriate corrections to keep projects on track.Explain GIS-related technical issues and concepts to non-technical staff.Direct the activities of a staff of subordinate specialists and technicians.Establish and maintain effective working relationships with associates.Develop and implement new and innovative methods, techniques, and procedures.QualificationsMinimum Requirements:BA/BS Degree in Geography, Urban Planning, Spatial Analytics, Geographic Information Systems, Computer Science, Management Information Systems, Engineering, Landscape Architecture or a related degree.Eight (8) years of related GIS experience or demonstrated equivalency of experience and/or education.GIS experience at the full performance level of designing, maintaining, and producing geospatial data and map production, which has included the use of Esri’s ArcGIS suite of software products or similar GIS software.Project management experience directing GIS activities involving professional-level experience in design, development, implementation and administration of geographic information systems, including analysis, database development and integration.Experience utilizing Esri’s suite of ArcGIS software products (ArcMap, ArcCatalog, ArcToolbox), Esri’s extensions (Spatial Analyst, 3D Analyst) programming languages including Python, Javascript and ArcGIS On-line as well as Esri’s cloud-based services and applications.Due to the nature of work involved, US Citizenship is required.Preferred Qualifications:Certification as a GIS Professional (GISP) by the GIS Certification Institute.Familiar with emerging GIS technologies and their application to improve services.Knowledgeable with data types, how to import and export data (e.g. ETL), personal and enterprise geodatabases or text files and the limitations on the data in each of these formats in Excel, Access and ArcGIS.Experience with SQL and its usage to create and modify data sources as neededKnowledgeable with the techniques of collecting and processing GPS and field data with mobile hardware and associated collection software.Familiar with imagery formats commonly used for project applications. Ability to manipulate imagery as required.Additional InformationRelocation assistance is not available for this position.Sponsorship for US employment authorization is not available now or in the future for this position.Offered compensation will be based on location and individual qualifications.
