Job Description:
Be a part of a world-class academic healthcare system, UChicago Medicine , as a Manager of Compensation . This position is hybrid and requires travel to our Hyde Park campus as needed.
The Compensation team is responsible for the daily administration of compensation programs and processes. In this role, you will lead the support of all union compensation matters serving as the main point of contact with a variety of internal business partners. We're looking for someone that's detail-oriented in nature, and process driven. The Manager of Compensation will lead the administrative processes for the annual compensation planning cycles, which includes the market competitiveness review and merit salary planning. Functions as a liaison between vendors and the department related to compensation surveys and market pricing. Is responsible for interacting with UCM leaders on a variety of compensation matters. Functions as key resource for external recruitment team on all compensation matters.
Essential Job Functions
- Leads efforts of coordination with the Director, Compensation to ensure that compensation programs are maximizing efficiencies, appropriately administered and are supported by HR information systems and processes.
- Develop departmental tools and user aides to create efficiencies within compensation team and internal customers.
- Manage annual compensation planning cycles, which includes Annual Salary Planning (ASP) merit process and Market Competitiveness Review (MCR) for all entities to create timeline and key dates.
- Plans, develops, and implements annual merit and market competitiveness review process. Partners with HRIT and IT to review supporting system(s) and manage new functionality to create a satisfying user experience.
- Manages ASP and MCR cycles including providing metrics during process and at conclusion related to spend.
- Leads efforts to coordinate the timing and management of pay surveys and vendors to ensure data is timely extricated and utilized for competitiveness meetings.
- Development and implementation of communication and training materials for compensation programs to all employees, leaders, and executives.
- Function as key compensation resource for external recruitment team to ensure timely and consistent information and training is provided. Escalates to leadership where practice or protocol is not clear.
- Collects trends on issues to develop tools and/or training for team.
- Performs other duties assigned.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in related discipline, preferably HR, Business or Finance.
- Previous experience in the development and administration of compensation programs.
- Exceptionally organized and efficiency focused.
- Ability to use rigorous logic and methods to solve difficult problems with effective solutions.
- Ability to make strategic and tactical decisions and judgments on sensitive, confidential issues.
- Expert project management skills.
- Strong interpersonal, influence, and oral and written communication skills.
- Skill in examining operations and procedures, and developing and implementing new strategies and procedures.
- Ability to make decisions and operate independently with respect to complex issues and business requirements with a high degree of exposure.
- Ability to thrive in a changing environment and deal with ambiguity.
- Competence in managing multiple projects simultaneously with a strong results/goal orientation.
- Conflict management.
- Thorough working knowledge of compensation concepts and theories.
Preferred Qualifications
- Master’s degree in human resources or related field.
- Previous experience as a partner in program design.
- Prior experience managing resources.
- Certification as a Senior Professional in Human Resources (SPHR), Certified Compensation Professional (CCP), Professional in Human Resources (PHR), or equivalent.
