The Community Health Representative will be responsible for the engagement of participantsin a community-based intervention designed to decrease alcohol and other substance use inBlack communities in New Haven and NYC. He/She will be responsible for providing participantand program support during the engagement of participants to the interventions through theuse of self-recovery experiences as a part of the service delivery. The Community HealthRepresentative will attend required trainings offered and interface with key personnel atchurches and community health sites.Job Responsibilities:Engage persons who have alcohol use disorder (AUD) and other SUDs or are at risk forAUD in the research studyAssist participants enrolled in understanding the materials by sharing lived experiencetestimoniesAssist participants in securing information about resources, as neededEngage and participate in the church-based treatment condition.Assist church health facilitators and other program staff with organizing groups andgraduation eventsProvide education and support to participants about supportsProvide education and support to church facilitators, program staff about peer recoverysupportsAssist participants in getting transportation to promote access to the interventionAssist in the development of peer support aspects of the interventionMinimum Qualifications:To qualify you must have a High School Diploma and minimum of 1 year related experience in an office setting or the equivalent combination of education and experience is required.Effective Oral, written communication and interpersonal skills.Preferred Qualifications:5 years of related work or volunteer experience in mental health or health fieldpreferredDemonstrated ability to support groups and meetings with individuals with a history ofsubstance use and mental health concerns.Demonstrated knowledge of health care resources and community-based programs andknowledge of transportation system.Demonstrated ability to work one to one with individuals who use alcohol and otherdrugs. Demonstrated ability to work with people from diverse backgrounds, includingindividuals with a history of incarceration, people who are houseless, and people withmental health and trauma experiences. Demonstrated ability to use first-hand livedexperience in this work use of self-recovery experiences from these experiences.Ability to provide documentation of interactions and experiences with participantsincluding basic computer skills and knowledge of Microsoft Word.Detailed oriented, ability to multi-task and shift from one research project to another,demonstrated flexibility and the ability and willingness to learn new skills. Ability towork collaboratively and independently.First-hand lived experience as a consumer of behavioral health services, defined as aperson in recovery from mental health and substance use challenges preferredRecovery Support Specialist Certification; Recovery Coaching Training; Intentional PeerSupport Training or other Peer Trainings preferredQualified candidates must be able to effectively communicate with all levels of the organization.
