The Editorial Director, Gastroenterology is a strategic leadership role responsible for curating, developing, and overseeing editorial content specific to gastroenterology, ensuring that the information remains clinically accurate, timely, and aligned with Medscape’s commitment to providing leading medical knowledge to physicians and healthcare professionals worldwide. This role is pivotal in ensuring that the content is both relevant and engaging for specialist and generalist audiences.
Core Responsibilities:
Lead the editorial direction for news and features in gastroenterology.
Assist with the creation and editing of news stories and features in the related specialty areas of endocrinology and oncology as assigned.
Oversee the creation and editing of news stories and features on gastroenterology, targeting a professional audience of physicians, ensuring coverage aligns with clinical practice needs.
Coordinate and oversee the coverage of gastroenterology conferences, held in the United States and globally.
Ensure content is thoroughly vetted for clinical accuracy, fairness, and clarity, particularly when covering complex gastrointestinal diseases and conditions.
Collaborate with internal teams and external clinical experts to generate expert-led commentary and analysis on gastroenterology topics.
Track trends and clinical advancements within gastroenterology to ensure content is both timely and aligned with the evolving medical landscape.
Partner with marketing and product teams to ensure content delivery aligns with user engagement goals and enhances clinical practice for physicians.
Develop strategies for improving reader engagement through relevant, high-quality content in gastroenterology.
Build strong editorial partnerships with key gastroenterologists to enhance the depth and breadth of coverage.
Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree in Journalism, Communications, or a related field, or equivalent experience.
Demonstrated ability to balance multiple priorities while maintaining accuracy and clinical rigor in published content.
Significant editorial management experience, with a strong focus on medical or health journalism, particularly in gastroenterology.
5+ years of experience leading news teams in creating and executing content strategy in healthcare or medical publishing.
Proven experience writing and editing news stories and features, translating complex medical information into clear, engaging articles for physicians and/or healthcare professionals.
Exceptional news judgment and a deep understanding of the medical and healthcare fields, with a specific focus on content related to gastroenterology.
Ability to manage a diverse team of medical writers, editors, and content creators, ensuring high editorial standards.
Strong understanding of how content marketing and audience engagement influence medical publishing.
Preferred:
Experience using analytics tools such as Tableau to track content performance and guide editorial decisions.
Familiarity with digital storytelling techniques and various content formats, including videos, infographics, and interactive modules to enhance reader engagement.
Ability to cultivate and manage a network of physician contributors and freelance medical writers and editors.
