U.S. Pipe and Foundry is seeking a Steel Estimator. The successful candidate will play a key role in developing cost estimates for ductile pipe fabrication projects. Interprets requirements for takeoffs, specifications, and verbal/written sales quotations. Works in conjunction with Outside Sales to grow revenue in markets. Corresponds with architects, subcontractors/contractors, and internal personnel in preparation of sales quotes.

U.S. Pipe and Foundry is seeking a Steel Estimator. The successful candidate will play a key role in developing cost estimates for ductile pipe fabrication projects. Interprets requirements for takeoffs, specifications, and verbal/written sales quotations. Works in conjunction with Outside Sales to grow revenue in markets. Corresponds with architects, subcontractors/contractors, and internal personnel in preparation of sales quotes.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Project Management
- Review projects to determine material and labor requirements and prepares itemized lists.
- Computes cost factors and prepares estimates for management review such as planning, organizing, and scheduling work; preparing bids; selecting vendors or subcontractors; and determining cost effectiveness.
- Conducts special studies to develop and establish standard hour and related cost data or effect cost reductions.
- Prepare and review light structural and miscellaneous steel fabrication estimates from start to finish.
- Perform value engineering, takeoffs, proposals, and schedule of values
- Verify status of quotes and keep up with market and other trends to enable competitiveness.
- Assist in business development departmental efforts in identifying new work opportunities
- Executes company protocols for deliverables such as bid packages, deliverable formats, and budget projection tools
- Organizes and manages centralized cost estimating software and database and a formal process to support cost estimating to ensure historical data is utilized.
- Analyzes completed projects to compare estimated cost to actual costs and determine the reason for any discrepancies.
- Administration
- Provide improvement recommendations to cost estimating procedures to reduce future discrepancies between estimated and actual cost
- Identifies cost trends to assist management in cost reduction and process improvement efforts
- Consults with clients, vendors, or other individuals to discuss and formulate estimates and resolve issues.
- Interfaces with other individuals in the organization to obtain support and commitment to the cost estimates.
- Follow up with clients on proposals and scope validation as needed.
- 3 to 5 years Steel Estimating knowledge.
- 3 to 5 years of Fabrication or Pipe industry knowledge.
- Proficient with AutoCAD.
- Proficient with Microsoft Office.
- Experience in Microsoft Dynamics NAV is a plus.
- Ability to read specifications and interpret plans.
- Candidate must have minimum high school diploma or equivalent.
- Strong communication skills and ability to meet deadlines, manage information from multiple locations.
- Ability to work with accuracy and be detailed oriented.
- Excellent computer skills and experience.
- Excellent oral and written communication skills and ability to communicate on all levels.
- Excellent problem solving/troubleshooting skills.
