The Energy & Utilities Consulting Practice is seeking individuals interested in leading and enhancing the technical capabilities of the group. As a Technical Director - Renewable Energy & Storage, you would be responsible for establishing the technical strategy and execution for our service offerings and client engagements. You will establish, communicate, and maintain accountability for the technical strategy based on industry trends to position 1898 & Co. to successfully secure and execute client engagements. The primary mission for the Technical Director is to foster a culture where technical excellence is recognized and valued for the importance it brings to our organization.

Job Functions:

  • Set direction by developing annual goals to improve technical business within the department and/or business line.
  • Provide direction and leadership for department and/or business line related technical teams.
  • Identify need for new technical teams to align with business direction.
  • Foster a thought leadership mentality at all levels and roles within department.
  • Identify and communicate industry trends to business line.
  • Partner with business development counterparts to develop strategic industry engagement plans to support targeted projects and technical leadership differentiation.
  • Foster a culture of continually improving technical processes focused on efficiency, tools, and technology - ultimately driving value to clients.
  • Proactively identify knowledge and experience gaps in ability to meet industry direction and direct the strategic hiring of key staff to build our resume as a company and/or develop existing talent.
  • Identify opportunities to continually improve technical and strategic execution strategies and generate vision and direction to implement changes.
  • Develop technical deliverables based on the need of the industry, form task force team(s) and lead pilot or strategic projects and train project managers and team to expand department or business line.
  • Identify opportunities to continually improve quality reviews in alignment with our evolving business.
  • Direct internal technical training for department and/or business line, collaborating with management to ensure and maintain training consistency, effectiveness, and vision.
  • Direct training and development programs for analysts, consultants, and project managers.
  • Develop and implement strategic vision for fostering a culture of quality and continuous improvement across the national department/practice.
  • Develop and establish technical best practices and improvements with department leadership.
  • Provide leadership, guidance, and instruction to the department.
  • Responsible for overall QA/QC process adherence.
  • Enforce compliance with company and site safety policies.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
  • Comply with all policies and standards.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in related field and 13 years related professional experience required.
  • Demonstrated technical ability internally and externally.
  • Proven leadership in developing and implementing vision that has brought positive impact.
  • Demonstrated excellent written & verbal communication skills, strong interpersonal skills, and analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to influence, lead, and manage change thoughtfully and positively.
  • Ability to clearly and effectively present complex information to all levels of employees, management, and clients.
  • Ability to handle difficult situations with tact, poise, and discernment.
  • Proven collaboration, facilitation, and organization problem-solving skills in previous roles.
  • Professional Engineer (PE) License preferred.
