Job Description
Purpose of Position:
To provide day-to-day administrative coordination and management of Emergency Department operations in support of direct patient care activities. To provide on-site supportive assistance to physicians and nursing personnel by facilitating the bridging of Emergency Department needs with existing hospital resources as needed.
Duties and Responsibilities:
A member of the revenue cycle process, the Registrar/Admitting Representative is responsible for the efficient and accurate collection of information for the orderly registration of patients. Major responsibilities include collecting demographic and Insurance information at the point of registration.
Essential Job Functions:

  • Provides overall supervision and direction to clerical personnel
  • Approves leave requests and schedules subordinate personnel: ensures adequate clerical coverage and satisfactory performance in the Emergency Department 24 hours per day, 7 days per week.
  • Performs annual and periodic performance evaluations of subordinate personnel, sets clerical standards, and establishes priorities.
  • Assists in recruitment and selection of new clerical personnel, provides orientation/ training, monitors and documents progress.
  • Represents the Administrative Director at meetings and conferences as needed.
  • In coordination with Labor Relations, determines the need for and initiates employer discipline and participates in the grievance process per LMMHHC Human Resources policies and procedures.
  • Assists with facilitating the identification and resolution of logistical, interpersonal, and inter/ intradepartmental problems.
  • Prepares purchase requisitions as appropriate and follows up with Purchasing and Receiving Departments.
  • Supply management for the Emergency Department.
  • Coordinates contractual agreements for repair and maintenance of equipment.
  • Actively participates in departmental Quality Improvement activities.
  • Maintains ongoing dialogue with professional nursing and medical personnel to determine clerical support, supply, equipment, and other needs, and coordinates activities.
  • Performs other related managerial and administrative duties as determined by the Administrative Director of Emergency Services.
Minimum Qualifications
1. A Master's degree from an accredited college or university in Public Health, Public Administration, Business Administration, Social Work, Psychology or Rehabilitation Counseling; and
2. Two (2) years of full-time experience in medically-oriented health care and medical support systems environment, one (1) year of which included experience in an administrative or supervisory capacity in such occupations as physical, occupational, inhalation, speech and audiology therapy or as Medical/Laboratory Technologist, Microbiologist (various specialties), Chemist (biochemist), Radiation and X-Ray Technician; or two (2) years of responsible level experience in business management systems or general administration including one (1) year in a supervisory or administrative capacity; or
3. A Baccalaureate degree from an accredited college or university in disciplines listed in "1" above; and
4. Three (3) years of full-time experience, as described in "2" above, including two (2) years of experience in an administrative or supervisory capacity in occupations, as listed in "2" above; or
5. A satisfactory equivalent combination of education, training and/or experience.
