Kennedy Jenks is seeking an experienced Civil/Mechanical Construction Inspector for a project in the Phoenix, AZ area. The ideal Civil/Mechanical Construction Inspector will have an outstanding work ethic and high integrity to provide construction inspection on water and wastewater infrastructure projects.

Responsibilities:

  • Inspect construction work to ensure conformance with contract documents and all applicable codes and standards.
  • Prepare daily written reports and contractor time and material records.
  • Review contractor’s request for additional compensation and prepare descriptions/reasons/estimates for change orders.
  • Verify work in place quantities for contractor payment applications.
  • Coordinate construction work with facility operations and other stakeholders, ensuring safety and quality.
  • Prepare written communication between owner and contractor.
  • Coordinate meetings with contractors, clients, and staff.
  • Provide quality assurance of contractor work.
  • Track contractor schedule and documentation compliance.
  • Conduct and document observations of construction as it progresses.
  • Perform field materials sampling and testing including tests for concrete slump, air content, compaction, moisture, and aggregate gradation.
  • Perform measurements and calculations necessary to determine quantity of work performed and materials required.
  • Check layout and dimensions of work using basic tape measures, rules, and other instruments.
  • Read and interpret construction drawings, specifications, and identify discrepancies or conflicts within the documents.
  • Compose reports with a daily log of construction activities, personnel assigned, equipment used, weather conditions, and other pertinent information.
  • Write reports to document field inspections and tests performed.
  • Collaborate with other field representatives or project managers.

Qualifications:

  • Technical school and/or associate's degree preferred; High School Diploma required.
  • 5 or more years of experience with all facets of construction including civil and mechanical installations.
  • Certifications for specialty inspections of steel, concrete, welding, coatings, and other aspects of infrastructure projects are a plus.
  • Experience with sewer rehabilitation, municipal projects, water and wastewater pipelines, agriculture pump stations, and/or water or wastewater treatment plants, for both new construction and rehabilitation, is strongly preferred.
  • Ability to exercise deductive reasoning and independently resolve problems.
  • Experience using survey equipment to check and confirm construction.
  • Ability to interpret construction schedules.
  • OSHA 10 Hr. Certification is a plus.
  • Valid driver’s license and acceptable driving record with ability to travel as needed.
