About The Director of Operations & Logistics Position

MISSION : EMBODY THE OPTIMIZER Ensure every one of our bomb ass systems, strategies, & structures functions like a well-oiled machine + be our organizational mastermind so our operations are not only streamlined, but people-first, profitable AF, & built to sustain JOY!

In This Role, You Will

  • Co-create & oversee our day-to-day operations at JOY RIOT! to ensure seamless, efficient processes that safeguard & accelerate our long-term success + regularly evaluate & creatively improve the efficiency of our procedures from a people-centric lens that aligns with company goals & ensures we do our best work to scale JOY RIOT! into a household name brand.
  • Oversee the implementation of AI, tech solutions, & software + ensure all project management systems run strategically & efficiently + oversee customer support processes & organize them to wildly surpass customer satisfaction & retention.
  • Assure all legal & regulatory documents are filed & monitor compliance with state & industry laws & regs + ensure all safety & health standards are met in-house for peak team performance & joy.
  • Lead efficient demand planning + manage & streamline procurement processes like researching & selecting our best manufacturing & supply partners, negotiating & reaching agreements on pricing & contract conditions, developing documentation for purchase orders, managing orders, inspecting incoming goods for quality assurance, & processing payment + approving or disputing invoices.
  • Build, nurture, & manage relationships with manufacturing & supply partners, retail partners, 3PL, & other external partnerships + manage every aspect of our supply chain, warehouse management system, & movement of raw materials & packaging, ensuring all areas of production run like a well-oiled machine + ensure quality control & safety across all aspects of production.
  • Evaluate & manage inventory, returns, budgets, & timelines to ensure on-time production & delivery with minimal downtime both for our e-commerce & retail partnerships + oversee that our website consistently runs like a dream.
  • Take part in our hiring needs, plans, & training + offer guidance & assistance in ensuring new team members are up to speed on our operational procedures.
  • Co-create company & individual performance goals with our CEO & Director of People & Productivity + evaluate overall performance by gathering, analyzing, & interpreting data & metrics.
  • Co-control company costs & introduce initiatives to address losses with our CEO & Director of Finance & Revenue + manage expenses, operational budgets, & resource allocation to cut costs & crank profitability.
  • Co-develop & implement exciting & actionable business plans, strategies, & objectives with our CEO that align to short & long-term plans + skyrocket & sustain company growth.

C-SUITE BOUND: This role is intended to grow into our COO & requires creating & co-creating from the ground up + functioning as a director AND manager + a deep sense of ownership of role & commitment, as if the company were your own.

OUTSTANDING EXPERIENCE: Proven experience & track record as Director of Operations or equivalent position & outstanding performance in a previous complex enterprise + excellent organizational & team leadership abilities + outstanding verbal & written, people, project management, financial planning, & negotiation skills.

DIVERSE STRATEGY: Strategic & analytical mind with in-depth knowledge of diverse business functions & principles (workforce management, supply chain, finance, business strategy, data analysis, performance & operation metrics, etc.).

BEAUTY KNOWLEDGE: Knowledge of the beauty industry’s legal rules & guidelines, good manufacturing practices (GMP), OSHA guidelines, employee rights, & FDA regulations.

PEOPLE PERSON: Naturally positive & flexible with demonstrated experience in ethical leadership + clear emotional intelligence for self & others.

Work Environment

Job duties for this position will be performed in our downtown Long Beach, CA headquarters.

Physical Demands

The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met to successfully perform the essential functions of this position. The team member in this position can expect that their role requires:

  • Prolonged period of sitting, with occasional standing.
  • Continuous use of computers & other office equipment.
  • Occasional lift, carry, push or pulling, &/or moving up to 10-25 lbs.
  • The ability to travel for staff events.

Position Type / Expected Hours of Work

This is a full-time position of 6 hour work days, approximately 30 hours per week, M-F, 10:30am-4:30pm. There is a likely chance for increased hours during brand & product launches. Anticipated schedules will be available approximately 2 weeks in advance.

Travel

Travel is required for this position. The ability to travel to manufacturing & supply partner sites locally & nationally if / when needed is required.

Required Education and Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree or MBA in business admin or related field.
  • 10+ years experience managing opps in a leadership role.
  • 5+ years experience in supply chain management.
  • Excellence in writing business plans, developing budgets, & conducting thorough research.
  • Proficiency in Monday.com, Apple products, & Google Workspace.

Preferred Education & Experience

  • Ability to travel to manufacturing & supply partner sites locally & nationally preferred.
  • Experience in a high-growth startup environment preferred.
  • Experience in the startup capital raising process & casting powerful, strategic vision for investors a plus.
  • Experience in the beauty industry a plus.
  • Experience in exits / acquisitions a plus.
  • Comfortable being on camera / visible on our social media a plus.

Other Requirements

  • Participation in Seed capital raise meetings & qualified investor intros are required upon request once job offer is accepted.
  • In-person downtown Long Beach, CA headquarters required.
  • Pre-employment drug test required.
  • Start date contingent on successful Seed raise – role begins Q1 2025 – preliminarily on Jan 2, 2025.
