About the Role
Reporting to the Senior Director, Information Technology, with a dotted line to the Finance department, the Senior Product Manager, IT Finances is responsible for increasing visibility to Broad IT Services (“BITS”) infrastructure costs, particularly around both on-prem and cloud based data storage and compute infrastructure. This includes developing a data driven approach in reporting and optimization of costs, which includes data storage, high performance computing, and virtual machines. They will work with BITS and Broad Researchers to identify optimization opportunities and work towards making our storage and compute infrastructure cost efficient. The Senior Product Manager, IT Finances will also be responsible for the day-to-day management of BITS infrastructure financial support functions such as budgets, forecasting, chargeback, rate setting, financial monitoring, and other financial administration support for on prem and cloud storage and compute services that approximate $30m+ per year.
The successful applicant will bring both technical and soft skills, will have strong technical accounting skills and/or a finance background, and a demonstrated ability to problem solve, manage budgets and communicate with executives. This includes interfacing directly with Broad Researchers.
Key Responsibilities
- Partner with IT Infrastructure Lead to develop an optimized chargeback/lookback application which meets the information needs of finance, Broad Researchers, and BITS staff and is scalable to include multiple modes of data storage, compute, and virtual machine usage.
- Collaborate with BITS Leaders, Finance Planning, Procurement and Broad Researchers on developing and reporting financial metrics and other cost transparency initiatives.
- Develop and maintain the lookback/chargeback application reporting features including utilization reports and dashboards that service both BITS and Broad Researchers.
- Monitor and identify infrastructure costs and other usage anomalies and investigate the source of these anomalies.
- Recommend savings opportunities related to Institute storage and compute commitments and track utilization of these commitments.
- Liaise with Procurement and BITS leadership to ensure suppliers receive purchase orders in alignment with business commitments and timing; this includes validating supplier invoices and approving invoice payments.
- Prepare Infrastructure cost budgets and forecasts, including rate setting.
- Create service consumption forecasts based on historical data and customer demand.
- Develop and communicate an understanding of comparative costs of the various storage and compute options available to Broad Researchers.
- Proactively collaborate with BITS leaders and Broad researchers to ensure efficient and effective storage and compute utilization.
- Participate in creating, maturing, and governing infrastructure cost optimization policies and best practices.
- Identify, raise, and escalate technical, business, and operational risks and opportunities.
- Import, transform, and rationalize data from systems such as Broad’s ERP system and Service Desk Applications to support objectives.
Experience & Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Information Technology or a related field required or equivalent work experience.
- Relevant work experience (5+ years) in a large cloud environment using GCP, AWS or Azure and their cost management applications.
- Experience (3+ years) in building and managing cost recovery models and related internal fund transfer mechanisms.
- Understanding of cloud infrastructure, cost reporting, and cost optimization at scale in GCP, AWS and/or Azure.
- Demonstrated understanding of IT Finance, infrastructure domains including data centers, network/ communications, server utilization, virtual environments, storage, and application development.
- Strong data analytics and data mining skills.
- Ability to communicate technical topics and deliver presentations in a clear, succinct, and relevant way.
- Demonstrated ability to develop and maintain strong working relationships.
- Ability to effectively communicate with colleagues at all levels of Broad to promote innovative ideas and lead change.
