POSITION SUMMARY
In this role, the Strategic Business Development Manager will identify programs and offices within federal and state agencies addressing specifiers, architects, contractors, consultants and regulators with the objective to influence specification of Seaman Corporation materials for end-use applications consumed by government entities. This position will report to the Sr. Strategic Commercial Director within our expanding client growth team. This person will need a strong background in managing strategic sales activity and a proven track record in attaining sales goals. This opportunity is challenging, dynamic, and highly rewarding. The individual filling this position will serve as both an independent performer and a vital contributor to our expanding business.
Candidates for this role must exhibit a strong background in navigating lengthy and complex sales cycles, from start to finish. This individual must be comfortable discovering, engaging, and presenting solutions to high-level decision makers. The ability to collaborate with resources within Seaman Corporation and across customer and partner ecosystems is crucial to this role.
This person should: have a grasp of engineering principles; possess a general understanding of U.S. General Services Administration (GSA) procurement processes; understand government regulations and standards; establish immediate credibility through preexisting connections; and demonstrate financial expertise while articulating unit economics during decision-making. Experience selling to federal and state agencies, particularly in roles involving specification of materials for government infrastructure projects and working with architects, contractors, consultants and regulators is preferred.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.
- Build and manage a portfolio of customers and partners within Federal and State Agencies, including architects, contractors, consultants and regulators
- Develop and maintain relationships with key industry decision makers to create a network that promotes Seaman Corporation products
- Work collaboratively with key stakeholders within the organization to ensure scope of deliverables, timelines and budgetary demands
- Develop and implement sales strategies for segments, working with fellow Strategic Business Development Managers and the Direct Sales teams to drive compliance and growth in sales and ensure brand awareness.
- Independently pitch and close complex sales presentations
- Conduct negotiations with major companies and key decision makers at the senior executive level and C-Suite.
- Identify opportunities and collaborate with internal teams to fully support customer goals
- Oversee sales performance to meet and exceed target sales goals
- Ensure accurate pipeline management and forecasting
- Bachelor's degree in relevant field such as Engineering, Project Management, Business or a related discipline
- 10+ years of experience selling within government sectors, preferably with a focus on building materials, infrastructure, or related industries
- Industry Knowledge: Experience working with federal and state agencies, understanding procurement processes and navigating regulatory environments
- Familiarity with architectural fabrics, commercial roofing, and geomembrane products
- Proven capabilities in growing relationships at the senior executive level and C-Suite for global Fortune 500
- Demonstrated ability to develop opportunities and close new business or expansion sales
- Successful track record of achieving immediate credibility; presenting varying ideas to create value and challenge the status quo; and able to think quickly, listen well, and understand how to react and modify approach in front of clients and other key influencers
