At RK&K, our Florida Transportation Design group has doubled in size in the past three years. We are positioned for continued growth with a strong backlog of work and multiple repeat clients including the Florida Department of Transportation and several municipalities. This new position on our team will support our continued growth. The position will spend 50% time on review of FDOT access and drainage connection permits and 50% in a design role on highway design, flood mitigation, and PD&E projects for FDOT and municipal clients. This position can be located anywhere in Florida, preferably within 30 miles of one of RK&K's existing offices.

Essential Function

This position will focus on drainage design and reviews according to FDOT standards by RK&K staff. Essential Functions include:

  • Design and analysis of stormwater management and drainage systems, and flood studies
  • Evaluate bridge hydraulics and scour countermeasures
  • Delineate drainage basins
  • Design erosion and sediment control systems
  • Prepare construction plans, specifications, design reports, technical memoranda, and miscellaneous contract documents
  • Apply good engineering judgement to the review of permit applications based on applicable criteria and standards
  • Prepare request for additional information (RAI) letters
  • Coordinate with FDOT staff and other clients
  • Operate FDOT One Stop Permitting portal
  • Coordinate multiple simultaneous tasks/projects
  • Proficient communication of technical information
  • Working closely with other design disciplines on practical solutions

Required Skills and Experience

  • 5 years of Florida experience (FDOT preferred)
  • Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering, Environmental Engineering, or related field
  • Previous experience with:
    • Drainage basin delineation
    • Wet and dry stormwater pond analysis
    • Erosion and sediment control design
    • Floodplain compensation analysis


  • Knowledge of ICPR4 or other stormwater modeling software
  • Professional engineer (PE) license in Florida
