SCOPE OF WORK: Provides academic advising to all prospective and current students at River Valley Community College. Coordinates the College's Student Life program. This position reports to the Associate Vice President of Academic & Student Affairs at River Valley Community College. This position requires regular travel to RVCC's Keene and Lebanon campuses.
ACCOUNTABILITIES:
  • Participates in College recruitment and prospective student activities:
  • Advises all students at River Valley Community College, including meeting with students regularly for long term planning, assisting with registration, reviewing degree progress, and monitoring graduation requirements;
  • Develops connections with other program directors, the Admissions Department, Student Services, transfer and career opportunities, and college life;
  • Develops and provides opportunities for student leadership training and development;
  • Facilitates the communication of student life opportunities to new students, current students, faculty and staff;
  • Researches, recommends, develops, implements and evaluates policy with the AVPASA in the area of Student Life;
  • Provides support for activities that engage our students in service and community partnerships;
  • Supports experiences that broaden student exposure in the areas of wellness, the arts, diversity, service, and personal growth;
  • Identifies grant opportunities for student life; writes proposals and provides information which may be needed for institutional grant proposals related to student life;
  • Develops brochures and materials and social media outlets to support student life programs, and seeks opportunities for press coverage, working with the marketing department;
  • Serves as lead advisor to the Student Government Association (SGA) and other student groups and organizations; oversees SGA financial accounts, working with the Business Office;
  • Serves as the Canvas co-administrator;
  • Works with VPASA, serves as the co-Chair of the New Student Orientation Committee and as the co-Chair of the CARES (Campus Assessment, Response, and Evaluation) team;
  • Manages and organizes RVCC's food pantry to include volunteer outreach, ordering, pickup, and stocking;
  • Serves on College and System teams as needs are determined by the Department and the College.
  • Complies with all college, system, state and federal rules and regulations and maintains confidentiality.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Education: Bachelor's degree from a recognized college or university with major study in counseling/advising, education, student services/development, behavioral science, or a related field.
Experience: Two (2) years' experience as an academic advisor/counselor, student life coordinator, or related experience, preferably within a higher education setting.
License/ Certification: Valid driver's license or access to transportation to perform travel requirements.
RECOMMENDED WORK TRAITS: Considerable knowledge of counseling principles and techniques. Considerable knowledge of learning, behavior, and emotional patterns of young adults. Knowledge of personality, achievement, prognostic, and placement tests and the techniques involved in their use and interpretation. Knowledge of statistical analysis techniques. Ability to maintain rapport with students, faculty and staff. Ability to communicate effectively and to prepare written reports. Ability to instruct students, faculty and staff concerning counseling roles and techniques, leadership roles, and human relations. Must be willing to maintain appearance appropriate to assigned duties and responsibilities as determined by the college appointing authority.
