Property Accountant.
Role Summary: We are seeking a dedicated Property/Real Estate Accountant to manage the financial aspects of our multifamily properties. This role involves close collaboration with Community Managers to ensure optimal financial performance, variance analysis, and reconciliations. This position is ideal for someone who excels in a dynamic, entrepreneurial environment and has prior experience in property accounting.
Key Responsibilities:
  • Conduct accounting, financial reporting, and analysis for assigned multifamily properties.
  • Collaborate with Community Managers on financial performance, identifying variances and resolving reconciliation issues.
  • Manage daily cash balances and prepare monthly bank reconciliations.
  • Ensure timely and accurate financial reporting, including annotated reports.
  • Reconcile key financial elements such as gross rent, prepaid rent, receivables, payables, and accrued expenses.
  • Perform internal audits semi-annually or as required.
  • Prepare annual audit packages to facilitate external audits, reviews, and tax preparations.
  • Coordinate with external CPA firms on audit and tax matters.
  • Manage fixed assets, prepaids, accruals, and month-end closing processes.
  • Analyze and maintain escrow accounts, loan amortization, and replacement reserves.
  • Assist in budget preparation and financial statement reviews.
  • Complete annual DC Property Income and Expense forms.
  • Undertake additional duties and projects as needed.
Qualifications:
  • BA/BS in Accounting or Finance.
  • Minimum 3 years of experience in real estate accounting, preferably in multifamily properties.
  • Strong understanding of GAAP.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Proven problem-solving and analytical abilities.
  • Exceptional organizational skills, ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines.
  • Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Office, especially Word and Excel.
  • Familiarity with Yardi software is a significant plus.
