So what's the role?
As a Staff Data Engineer, you will play a pivotal role in ensuring the quality, integrity, and security of Kin’s data assets. You’ll be responsible for building out a data lakehouse for enterprise reporting, which will involve the design and development of data pipelines, modeling raw data for downstream ingestion, and mentoring data engineers across the department.
A day in the life could include...
Leading a cross-functional project team with members from AppEng, DataEng, BI, and business stakeholders tasked with designing a solution to produce effective reporting, implementing data validation standards, and QA procedures to ensure effective data lifecycle and management practices. This involves:
- Establishing trust and relationships with stakeholders while defining technical requirements, ensuring alignment with business goals.
- Assessing the effectiveness and accuracy of data sources and data gathering techniques.
- Maintaining a centralized metadata catalog to document data assets, schemas and lineage.
- Ensuring pipelines and storage solutions comply with Kin’s standards on privacy regulations such as GDPR, CCPA, and GLBA.
- Analyzing database configurations to optimize the performance of end user models and dashboards.
- Monitoring data access logs and audit trails to detect unauthorized access or usage of data.
I've got the skills, but do I have the necessary ones?
- 10+ years of experience in data engineering or data integration with a focus on data modeling.
- 2+ years of experience with lakehouse architecture.
- Experience mentoring a team of data engineers and with a record of career growth on the team.
- Experience with data pipeline tools and platforms such as dbt, Databricks, FiveTran, Kafka, and AWS.
- Experienced programmer using languages such as SQL, Python, and/or Java.
- Previous experience with databases such as AWS Redshift, MySQL, Postgres, SQL Server, etc.
- Excellent communication and collaboration skills to engage with stakeholders across different levels of the organization.
