About The Bancroft School:

The Bancroft School is a unique educational program that aims to empower students with autism by providing teachable moments throughout their day. In addition to traditional academic subjects, the program also focuses on daily living and social skills. Art and music, along with Adaptive Physical Education and Enrichment activities and an activity pool for water safety, swim instruction, and recreation are all part of the Bancroft experience.

 

Position Summary:

Provides on-site job assessment, skills training, and job coaching to persons served within the Bancroft organization and employed at host organizations to maintain and enhance community-based employment.

Responsibilities:
Conducts job assessments on an ongoing basis with assigned persons served to identify individual job preferences, interests, abilities, and satisfaction

Provides individuals with on-the-job coaching and skills training throughout the course of employment; e.g., explaining employer organization’s policies and procedures, providing training on daily work activities and processes, providing orientation regarding job structure and management’s performance expectations, reorienting persons served to job and management changes, providing instruction regarding proper utilization of equipment, explaining appropriate personal appearance and attire at job site, etc.  

Monitors ongoing progress of persons served regarding goals, skill building, and job objectives; provides input to Employment Specialist and Program Manager to ensure proper job placement, determine satisfaction of persons served and their employers, identify further training needs, develop and implement action plans, etc.

Actively participates in the Interdisciplinary Team (IDT) process in conjunction with the IPP and, with the IDT, determines the best timing for effective transition to independent employment for persons served. 

Facilitates the social integration of persons served into the existing employer job site.  Strives to build and maintain effective on-the-job work relationships by encouraging interaction among coworkers, creating and conducting role playing sessions, identifying and sharing commonalities between persons served and coworkers, etc., and by promoting a level of comfort and acceptance in the workplace. 

Assesses the need for, and recommends sensitivity training at employer job sites to Program Manager.  Provides sensitivity training and support to employers and coworkers when the need is identified or when specifically requested by employer.

Provides safety instruction to persons served in the workplace and within the community to ensure a safe and secure work environment.

Qualifications:
High School Diploma or equivalent with a minimum of 3 years of direct experience working in an educational environment, or, 30 college credits with six months of related work experience, or, a Bachelor’s degree in a related field are required. Prior experience working with individuals with developmental disabilities preferred.
