Brown and Caldwell is looking for a mid to senior level engineer to join our team within our Private Sector Business Unit (PSBU). The successful candidate will work on a broad spectrum of remediation, compliance and O&M projects ranging from environmental site assessments, remedial technology/alternatives evaluation, remedial design, remedy implementation and remediation/site closure projects. This is an exciting opportunity to work in a growth-oriented professional consulting firm with multiple offices throughout the U.S. Candidate will work with and be mentored by strong, nationally recognized, senior technical staff on various projects. Detailed Description:
In this role you will perform client-facing remediation and compliance and permitting work while providing project management support, oversight to field task-level and project level support employees within our environmental practice. Office work may include project management, preparing work plans, reports, permit applications, figures, maps, design drawings, engineering calculations, technical specifications, summarizing various field and analytical data, and interpreting data.
Field work may include on-site observation and documentation of remedial construction activities such as demolition, construction, test pitting, excavation, and other remedial technologies.
Additional responsibilities to include:
- Work closely with Project Managers to execute work involving civil and remediation principles.
- Develop and prepare technical specifications, detailed design drawings, work plans, reports, perform construction submittal reviews, engineering calculations, prepare models and other technical deliverables for remediation and environmental related projects.
- Evaluate, select, and apply standard engineering techniques, procedures, and criteria to prepare, modify, revise work plans, reports and remedial designs.
- Work closely with project team in planning and/or designing remedial alternatives and design and engineering studies.
- Communicate effectively and coordinate with project teams including other disciplines (drafters, designers and other engineers).
- Provide consultation in specialized areas make decisions and solve problems.
- Assist with business development pursuits as requested.
- Position may require minimal travel and off-site field visits.
Desired Skills and Experience:
- Bachelor's degree in Engineering (Civil, Environmental, Chemical, or related) required; Master's preferred.
- Candidate should either have an EIT or be willing/able to obtain an EIT in the near term.
- Five to ten plus years of professional experience preferred.
- Good technical skills with the ability to articulate ideas and concepts both visually and contextually are essential.
- Strong verbal/written communication skills and ability to work well independently and in team environments.
- Candidate must be willing and able to travel for daily and short-term field assignments.
- Possess 40-hour OSHA HAZWOPER certification with current 8-hour refresher or have the ability to take and pass the training/physical.
- Must be willing to work in the field and able to perform physical work.
- Ability to work independently while maintaining a strong focus on health and safety, quality, and schedule.
- Ability to work for short periods of time in hot and cold weather (occasionally extreme conditions).
- Ability to wear required personal protective equipment at sites including hard hats, steel toed boots (or other approved toe protection), safety glasses, safety vests, respirators, etc.
- Ability to stand for several hours observing and documenting field conditions or critical construction operations.
- Ability to walk slowly around sites of varying size that may have areas of uneven, muddy, and/or rocky ground to perform inspections and take photographs.
- Ability to lift objects less than 30 pounds.
- Ability to remain alert and vigilant while working around construction equipment and be able to walk swiftly for a short distance to clear an area where a potential hazard is identified.
- Ability to climb stairs (2-3 flights) or ladders (up to 24 foot typically) to access structures for visual inspection.

Location B: $106,000- $145,000
Location C: $116,000 - $158,000
