Description
The South Bay Workforce Investment Board, Inc. (SBWIB, Inc.) is seeking a highly motivated, organized, and dedicated Job Developer to spearhead job development efforts for our Reentry Programs under the Partners for Reentry Opportunities in Workforce Development (PROWD) initiative. This position focuses on connecting justice-involved individuals with meaningful employment opportunities to support their reintegration into the community.
The ideal candidate is passionate about workforce development, committed to advocating for justice-involved populations, and experienced in building and maintaining strong relationships with employers. Success in this role requires exceptional organizational skills, a proactive and detail-oriented mindset, and the ability to thrive both independently and collaboratively. The candidate must demonstrate adaptability, professionalism, and a solution-oriented approach while securing quality job placements and supportive services for individuals returning from incarceration.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Under the guidance of an authorized personnel, the Career Services Coordinator - Job Developer will undertake various responsibilities, including but not limited to:

  • Employer Engagement and Advocacy : Establish and maintain ongoing communication with businesses, industry representatives, and job placement/training agencies to promote program participation, specifically advocating for the hiring of justice-involved individuals and participants in reentry programs.
  • Relationship Building and Marketing : Develop and foster relationships with hiring managers, HR personnel, and business owners, focusing on creating employment opportunities for participants, including those with diverse employment and educational backgrounds, such as ex-offenders.
  • Outreach and Cold Calls : Proactively conduct outreach through cold calls and targeted communications to prospective employers, presenting the benefits and support services offered by the program and tailoring solutions to address specific employer needs.
  • Networking and Collaboration : Facilitate networking opportunities between agencies and employers, participate in program presentations, represent the program on relevant committees, and collaborate with local workforce development organizations.
  • Job Lead Research and Recruitment : Conduct research across various channels to identify job leads, utilizing online platforms, industry networks, and community organizations. Actively participate in recruitment activities such as job fairs and community outreach events.
  • Job Matching and Placement : Source employment opportunities for participants, aligning job openings with participant qualifications. Arrange job interviews, ensure participants are well-prepared, and assist employers in filling open positions.
  • Participant Career Support : Provide comprehensive support to participants, including assessing job skills, administering career assessments, and offering guidance on job-seeking strategies, resume writing, interview preparation, and job retention skills.
  • Workshops and Presentations : Organize and conduct job search workshops, career information sessions, and job readiness presentations. Assist participants in preparing job search portfolios and scheduling interviews with potential employers.
  • Employer Follow-up and Support : Maintain ongoing communication with employers after participants are placed, ensuring job performance is tracked, and provide counseling when necessary to improve participant outcomes.
  • Participant Monitoring and Counseling : Monitor participant performance in the workplace, offering guidance and support as needed. Collaborate with participants and employers to address performance issues or explore alternative employment opportunities.
  • Team Collaboration and Meetings : Participate in client/program team meetings, conferences, and training activities. Conduct off-site assessments and provide services at employer sites or community locations as necessary.
  • Data Tracking and Reporting : Track participant progress, document placement activities, and ensure that all files and reports comply with program requirements and company standards. Prepare accurate and timely reports on program outcomes.
  • Marketing and Promotion : Assist in developing promotional materials for job placement activities and help create advertising campaigns to enhance program visibility and employer engagement.
  • Work-Based Learning Coordination : Plan and coordinate work-based learning activities, including internships, company tours, job shadow opportunities, and classroom presentations. Market job seekers to employers by organizing visits and meetings.
  • Labor Market Research : Stay informed about labor market trends and employment opportunities through ongoing research, networking with employers, and attending industry events.
  • Additional Duties : Perform other duties as assigned, ensuring flexibility and adaptability to meet program needs and support the overall mission of workforce development and reentry success.
Requirements
  • Bachelor's Degree from an accredited college or university in criminal justice, social sciences, business administration, human resources, social work, psychology, education, or a related discipline.**
  • At least two (2) years of experience in the delivery of reentry services, supporting reentry initiatives, social service programs, workforce development, career counseling, job placement, or related fields**
  • Reliable transportation, a valid Driver's License, and active vehicle insurance are required.
  • Successful completion of background and reference clearances, along with adherence to all safety protocols mandated by the Company and as outlined under the working conditions below.
**Alternatively, a satisfactory combination of experience, education, and training demonstrating the necessary knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform the duties described (experience may substitute for education on a year-for-year basis).

  • Has experience working with or the ability to quickly learn Microsoft Office software, including Outlook, Word, PowerPoint, and Excel, as well as familiarity with case management systems and databases.
Working Conditions
  • Working in person and wearing protective equipment as needed (e.g. mask, gloves, etc.,), and following protective measures enforced by the Company, City, County, State, and/or Federal Authorities as it relates to current states of emergencies (e.g., pandemics) or the functions of this position. Note: Measures may change based on the level of safety concerns.
  • Employee may be required to spend the majority of the day walking, standing, or sitting at a desk, with some lifting and bending. Must have excellent time management skills, must be able to work well under stress, and meet deadlines.
  • Must also be able to travel to other locations for training, conferences, and/or meetings within or outside our local area and occasionally statewide in which such travel may last one (1) or more days - if/as necessary.
Salary & Benefits
This is a full-time, nonexempt position (40 hours/week), generally with a starting hourly wage of $26.77 - $31.93 per hour, commensurate with experience. SBWIB, Inc. offers a comprehensive employee benefits package, which includes:
