Overview: DT Global is seeking a Sustainable Finance Technical Director to join the Environment and Infrastructure (E&I) Practice. The Sustainable Finance Technical Director will be responsible for providing overall direction, technical guidance, and oversight to projects and business development on structuring public, private, and blended finance for climate change, clean energy transitions, economic growth, and water security, sanitation, and hygiene (WASH). The Director will work closely with the Vice President of E&I and the Technical Directors for the Climate, Water, and Energy sub-practices in developing and leading the technical and business direction as well as strengthening DT Global's reputation as a thought leader in sustainable finance.

Tasks and Responsibilities:

Business Development

  1. Oversee successful development of new business proposals by providing strategic positioning for sustainable finance, technical oversight, and resource allocation in close coordination with the BD team.
  2. Ensure the development of high quality, compliant, and innovative proposals.
  3. Contribute to reviewing all proposals as part of the development process, particularly on strategic partner negotiations. Serve as the capture manager or technical writer in line with core skill sets and networks.
  4. Oversee scoping and information gathering trips for anticipated and live proposals and guide staff and consultants supporting research efforts.
  5. In coordination with the E&I Vice President, manage the long-term positioning of DT Global with key clients, including the development and maintenance of strong relationships with current and potential clients.

Project Delivery

  1. Oversee implementation of USAID and other donor sustainable finance projects or activities, providing home office program management leadership and guidance.
  2. Allocate and manage PMU resources between project management, business development (in coordination with the BD team), STTA assignments, and leave.
  3. Approve deliverables for submission to client.
  4. Obtain regular client assessments of project progress, including management of CPARS.
  5. Serve as home office engagement manager for projects or sustainable finance activities, as required.
  6. Ensure all relevant policies and procedures are adhered to and enforced, including compliance with laws, regulations, and DT Global policies.

Technical Excellence

  1. Oversee and provide higher level technical guidance on project work plan development and execution to ensure quality and timely delivery.
  2. Lead technical leadership efforts, including development of thought pieces and other knowledge products.
  3. Contribute to overall strategic vision and direction for overseeing implementation and expansion of water sector portfolio.
  4. Analyze regional and country context relevant to assigned program(s).

Overarching Responsibilities:

Leadership and Staff Management

  1. Provide direct supervision, guidance, feedback, mentorship, and recognition to staff at the field and home office project management unit (PMU) levels.
  2. Coach direct reports on performance improvement across the full spectrum of program management, business development, and technical development.
  3. Collaborate with other divisions on decision making matters and address major issues having cross-functional impacts.
  4. Create a cooperative environment that empowers staff at all levels to contribute and work together as a unit.
  5. Set an example as a leader by holding yourself and staff accountable and supporting the development of all staff.

Learning and Innovation

  1. Foster professional development and growth activities for staff at all levels.
  2. Ensure DT Global’s learning agenda and innovation efforts are aligned with strategic goals.
  3. Integrate extensive experience and learned best practices into all aspects of work for broad organizational shared learning.

Education & Minimum Qualifications:

  1. Master’s degree in a related field (MBA, Business, Economics, Investment, International Development).
  2. A minimum of 10-12 years of direct donor project management experience in sustainable finance.
  3. A minimum of 7 years supervisory experience.
  4. Experience in applying financial instruments such as guarantees, insurance, and climate-related debt instruments.
  5. Experience in climate investment mobilization and familiarity with carbon markets.
  6. Experience in mobilizing private sector finance and brokering public private partnerships (PPPs).
  7. Experience contributing technical guidance to business development proposals.
  8. Practical experience working with a range of development program partners.
  9. Excellent interpersonal skills.
  10. Strong leadership, verbal and written communication skills.
  11. Field experience working outside the US, particularly in developing countries.
  12. Ability to travel and work overseas on short term technical assignments up to 25%.

Preferred Qualifications:

  1. Fluency in Arabic, French, or Spanish preferred.
  2. Experience working with multiple donors (USAID, MCC, etc.).
