You will be an integral member of the Grid Services Program Management team - responsible for overseeing a set of operational grid services programs while tightly coordinating with the origination team to ensure seamless program handoffs.
The Program Manager (PGM) position leads multiple concurrent Grid Services programs during the operation and performance stages to successfully meet performance and revenue objectives associated with aggregations of Sunrun storage systems, EVs, etc. PGMs serve as the primary liaison between Sunrun and Grid Services customers as well as counterparties like utilities, regulators, and market operators, and must develop trusted relationships with both internal execution teams and external vendors to effectively operate a Grid Services Program.
This position defines tasks according to contracted program objectives, leads problem-solving initiatives and oversees quality control throughout all stages of the program cycle, while communicating proactively with senior stakeholders. The PGM is responsible for program design, technology platform trouble-shooting and customer interactions in keeping with a 5-star customer experience.
Additionally, this position owns the improvement of related key activities across Sunrun's business to optimize Grid Service Operations, from creation to completion and impact reporting.
The PGM should be able to combine knowledge of distributed energy resources, independently lead multiple concurrent programs, give detailed attention to program strategy, project management, risk management, and execution while always putting the customer first.
This position will either be remote or based at one of Sunrun’s corporate offices. This position may require some amount of travel (likely, 10%).
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Partner with other teams to diagnose, create an accountable plan, and drive to resolution on VPP performance issues (20%)
- Develop high level and program level relationships with utilities, market operators, and regulators to ensure continued VPP program viability (e.g., attending utility stakeholder meetings and driving outcomes as appropriate)
- Support with negotiations of contracts to maintain customer relationships and continuity
- Manage performance and billing to contract terms
- Independently lead strategic projects for the Grid Services team
- Lead the efficient delivery of projects toward overarching program goals (20%)
- Develop trusted relationships with Sunrun’s Grid Services host customers (10%)
- Master a thorough comprehension of the program contract materials and ensure that all contractual or programmatic obligations are being met (10%)
- Establish reporting metrics for internal leaders and external customer transparency (5%)
- Be a leader in prioritizing initiatives and roadmap development (5%)
- Become an expert in your region and markets to guide and ground our future VPP development in market realities (10%)
Target Achievements:
- Within your first month, familiarize yourself with our product, battery strategy, policy developments, tariff analysis, and data architecture. You will be expected to ask critical questions and develop a point-of-view.
- Between month two and six, oversee end-to-end program management for several active grid services programs, creating your own customer relationship management, program pipeline and reporting, as well as strengthening and developing relationships with external stakeholders in your geographies and markets.
- By the end of month six, begin to contribute to strategy and improvement related functions and help scale our internal capabilities.
REQUIREMENTS (EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE, CERTIFICATIONS, AND OTHER SKILLS)
- Previous work in energy markets and/or utility energy services / demand response
- Previous work in behind the meter batteries and battery-backed services for grid partners
- Interest in DERMs software and/or BTM asset-to-platform integration
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills, including facilitation of group presentations
- Proficiency in Google suite applications, including Drive, Docs, Sheets, Slides, and Forms
- Innovation and problem-solving skills that include the ability to develop and propose solutions
- Must be able to work in a fast paced environment
- Candidate must be a self-starter and work with little supervision, requiring continual analytical research methods, precise calculations and the ability to “think outside of the box”, as well as being prepared for continual change. Should possess excellent organizational and self-management skills.
- Bachelor’s degree or equivalent work experience in related field

Starting salary/wage for this opportunity:
$82,050.41 to $109,400.55
Other rewards may include annual bonus eligibility, which is based on company and individual performance, short and long term incentives, and program-specific awards.
