The Microsoft System Administrator Senior position will provide Windows engineering support and will be responsible for building, patching, and troubleshooting Windows servers in support of current and future DOT systems and applications. This position will serve as SCCM engineer in leading maintenance of SCCM as well as leading Windows Server patching and maintenance. This candidate will be working with a team of server engineers to troubleshoot issues for multiple systems in multiple datacenter locations, and will provide support, implementation, and design services for Windows-based systems across the enterprise. The candidate will be responsible for resolving and completing assigned tasks and change requests and will act as an escalation for support issues. The candidate will also be responsible for applying new solutions through research and collaboration with team members and will be advising on course of actions for new application initiatives.


Job Duties:
  • This position requires a minimum 2x/week onsite.
  • Once every 2-3 months support server infrastructure in a 24x7 on-call escalation capacity as part of a team rotation.
  • Assist with monthly Server Patching once a month during Saturday maintenance window.
  • Lead operations and management of SCCM software.
  • Support completion of MS operating system upgrades.
  • Write PowerShell scripts to automate systems administration tasks.
  • Develop, build, and maintain application packages for deployment from SCCM.
  • Deploy, maintain, and upgrade Task Sequences for PXE imaging process.
  • Distribute monthly security patches utilizing SCCM and WSUS integration.
  • Thoroughly evaluate, validate, and deploy packages and validation cases; document and provide evaluation results.
  • Create, update, deploy, troubleshoot, and remove objects in the SCCM environment, sites, distribution points (DPs), and clients based on provided guidelines.
  • Maintain disaster recovery capability and procedures for the SCCM environment.
  • Report on patch status and completion including producing metrics and updating the patch list.
  • Manage Windows devices through Active Directory, Group Policy Objects, registry and file system security as needed.
  • Administer systems infrastructure both on-premises and in the cloud.
  • Collaborate with other team members to perform server patching and maintenance.
  • Evaluate hardware and software purchases.
  • Manage 2000+ servers across multiple field site locations.
  • Follow existing incident, problem, release, change management processes.
  • Provide high level technical support for Tier-3 issue escalations/tickets.

Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
  • Must have a minimum of 10 years of experience.
  • Expert knowledge of Windows OS to include W2K12R2, W2K16, W2K19, and W2K22.
  • Working knowledge of the management of highly available enterprise IT infrastructure and associated systems and support services, including Windows server, and infrastructure services.
  • Ability to independently evaluate, select, and apply standard IT techniques, procedures, and criteria using judgement in making adaptations and modifications to SCCM applications & packages.
  • Experience scripting in the development of SCCM application/packages.
  • Experience with error logging/debugging and PowerShell scripting.
  • Expert knowledge of Active Directory, Group Policies, PowerShell, and Batch scripting.
  • Expert knowledge and troubleshooting skills to resolve failed update installation in Windows OS and VMware.
  • Experience writing various reports related to the deployment of software, which include writing Plans of Action and Milestones (POA&Ms).
  • Experience with installing hardware drivers, firmware, bios, and other hardware upgrades for servers.
  • Experience remediating server security vulnerabilities and assessment findings.
  • Expert at managing Virtual Hosts, Virtual Servers, and using the VMware suite of applications and tools.
  • Experience performing dual-stack and IPv6-only testing of Windows Servers and other Windows-based systems.
  • Experience performing dual-stack implementation of IPv4 and IPv6, ideally with pure IPv6 as well.
  • Experience managing environments of 2000+ servers across multiple field site locations.
  • Experience with performing root cause analysis, risk identification, and risk mitigation.
  • Ability to collaborate and perform in a team environment.
  • Must be a self-starter with strong problem solving and communication skills.

  • Experience with MS Intune.
  • Experience with MS BitLocker.
  • Experience with MS AppLocker.
  • VMware Certification(s).
  • AWS/ Azure Cloud Certification(s).
  • Additional Microsoft and/or Azure Certification(s).
