- An MD, DO or equivalent degree and academic leadership experience and accomplishments commensurate with process qualifications for a UT College of Medicine faculty appointment at the level of Associate Professor or Professor.
- The qualifications to obtain an unrestricted medical license from the State of Tennessee Board of Medical Examiners.
- Demonstrated leadership success in a complex, multi-faceted academic medical center, with proven skills in strategy and implementation and a strong personal and professional commitment to diversity and inclusion.
- Proven ability to mentor and develop talent in all missions with unquestionable integrity, personal ethics, and outstanding communication skills.

- The new leader, in their capacity as Division Chief, will serve in a dyad reporting relationship with the Chair of Surgery, Le Bonheur President, and Vice President of Regional Services and Strategy. As Surgeon-In-Chief, the new leader will report directly to the President of Le Bonheur Children’s Hospital.
- The division of pediatric surgery comprises 6 physician faculty and 4 affiliated pediatric surgeons through a relationship with St. Jude.
- Le Bonheur Children’s is committed to the prevention, treatment, and elimination of pediatric disease. At the Children's Foundation Research Institute (CFRI), researchers are seeking new discoveries and treatments to promote children's health. Le Bonheur continues to develop infrastructure to support research and enhance collaboration among our physicians. CFRI has a 300,000-square-foot Research Center dedicated to basic, translational, and clinical research, providing infrastructure and resources to develop a major pediatric research center that makes discoveries in pediatric medicine.
Division of Pediatric Surgery
The Division of Pediatric Surgery includes nationally recognized surgeons, highly trained nurse practitioners and outstanding residents in training. From addressing complex fetal anomalies with our colleagues in the Le Bonheur Fetal Center to managing rare vascular anomalies in the Vascular Anomaly Center to addressing childhood obesity through our Healthy Lifestyle Clinic , our team of clinicians is committed to outstanding patient and family-centered care that impacts the health disparities experienced by our patients and their family. Our Level I Pediatric Trauma Program at Le Bonheur Children’s Hospital was verified by the American College of Surgeons in 2011. It was the first ACS verified Level I Trauma Center in the state of Tennessee.

Department of Surgery
The Department of Surgery traces its origins back to 1914. The Department of Surgery is under the direction of Professor and Chair, David Shibata, MD, FACS, FSSO, FASCRS, the Harwell Wilson Alumni Endowed Chair in Surgery. The department is comprised of approximately 70 faculty members and 50 surgical residents who participate in research, education, and clinical services at affiliated hospitals that include Methodist UT Hospital, Baptist Memorial Hospital, Regional One Health, St. Francis Hospital, Le Bonheur Children’s Hospital, St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital and the Veteran’s Administration Medical Center. The divisions within the Department of Surgery include cardiac surgery, general surgery, pediatric cardiothoracic surgery, pediatric surgery, plastic and reconstructive surgery, surgical oncology, thoracic surgery, transplantation, trauma/surgical critical care, and vascular and endovascular surgery.
