Title: Engineering Project Manager

Location: Oswego, IL or Avon, OH

Reports to: VP, Engineering, Griffith Foods, North America

Summary

Reporting directly to the Vice President of Engineering, this position is responsible for developing, recommending, and implementing cost-effective food manufacturing solutions while leveraging technologies within quality standards. Responsible for carrying out capital projects, engineering design, development of specifications, defined scope of work, project planning and execution, as well as organizing and coordinating resource schedules and budgets.

Responsibilities:

  • Coordinates, and exercises functional authority for planning, organization, control, integration and completion of engineering projects within the Custom Culinary business.
  • Provides integral communication with the Custom Culinary group to enable planning, troubleshooting, and execution of key initiatives.
  • Exercises functional authority over personnel who work on Capital projects, such as Maintenance, Continuous Improvement, and outside contractors.
  • Responsible for the management of the Capex process and project outcomes of Custom Culinary group.
  • Carries out process improvement, problem resolution, and project management.
  • Makes recommendations in the manufacturing processes for improvements in efficiency, quality and cost-reduction.
  • Performs research, design and development of manufacturing processes including production flow, assembly methods and production equipment, promoting sustainability, and maximizing safety and wellbeing of our employees.
  • Prepares and presents plans to stakeholders and coordinates deployment.
  • Prepares and maintains detailed layouts of buildings and equipment.
  • Coordinates the launch of new/revised manufacturing upgrades including establishing goals, training team members and evaluating results.
  • Designs, develops, sources and tests tools, machinery and equipment for recommended manufacturing improvements.
  • Performs product/process analysis for improvements in manufacturing efficiencies, quality and cost reduction.
  • Plans and implements assigned engineering projects including defining the project scope, project activities, equipment specification, contractor requirements as well as plant and customer requirements.
  • Develops and maintains a schedule and budget for the assigned engineering project.
  • Maintains interface with Business Unit and VP of Supply Chain to provide project updates and ensures customer needs are met.
  • Controls expenditures within limitations of project budget. Responsible for project forecasting and spending.
  • Documents all aspects of projects such as directing outside contractors, project integration into the plant operation, technical information, and training.
  • Identifies project staffing requirements and coordinates staffing with supporting organization managers.
  • Coordinates preparation and delivery of project deliverables, design documents, and bid packages.
  • Reviews product design for compliance with engineering principles, sustainability, ergonomics, company standards, customer contract requirements, and related specifications.
  • Assigns and oversees project personnel to specific phases or aspects of project such as technical studies, product design, preparation of specifications and technical plans, and product testing.
  • Coordinates activities concerned with technical developments, scheduling, and resolving engineering design and test problems.
  • Directs integration of technical activities and products.
  • Evaluates and approves design changes, specifications, and drawing releases.
  • Participates in special projects, other duties or tasks that may be assigned as required.
  • Ensures the health, safety, cleanliness, and security of the work environment.
  • Ensures safety, quality, legality, and authenticity of products in accordance with regulations and standards, as this role dictates.
Qualifications:

  • Minimum 5 years hands-on experience required.
  • Working knowledge in sauces and dressings processes as well as prior experience with building expansions for a food process environment is strongly preferred.
  • University degree in Mechanical, Chemical Engineering, or related fields like Mechatronic Engineering is required.
  • Must be able to work onsite full time in either Oswego, Illinois plant and/or Avon, Ohio plant, with ability to travel up to 20% of the time to various Griffith plants and vendor sites.
Working Relationships:

Internal:
  • Reports to VP of Engineering, North America.
  • Position has no direct reports; however, this position exercises functional authority over Custom Culinary CapEx plans and Project Managers responsible for capital projects. This may include but is not exclusive to Maintenance Managers, Production Supervisors, Process Improvement Engineers, etc.
  • Works with internal plant teams including Operations, Plant Management, Maintenance and Accounting.
External:
  • Works with mechanical, plumbing, electrical contractors, and PLC programmers, as well as engineering consultants, designers, etc.
