This position will serve as the Energy and Climate Equity Manager for Cornell Cooperative Extension Association of Nassau County and will work under the direction and supervision of the Natural Resource Team Leader. This position will support the Community Energy Program in satisfying the goals for equitable engagement across the Long Island region, including Nassau County, Suffolk County, and the Rockaway Peninsula, in the areas of energy and climate.
The Community Energy Program seeks to serve members of disadvantaged communities with education and support for reducing home energy use and transitioning. This position will work to inform residents, multifamily business owners, and small businesses, with an emphasis in low-to-moderate income and priority communities, of the options for adopting clean energy strategies in their homes and businesses. This position will be responsible for providing direction and coordination of the Community Energy Navigator program, managing 12 – 20 independent contractors engaged in outreach efforts across the region.
Work includes establishing and maintaining relationships and working with team members, community partners and local stakeholders to lend energy efficiency and clean energy programs to more holistically address energy and climate inequities. This program will deliver information and provide education in a wide variety of settings, including, but not limited to: providing educational tables/booths at community events; presenting before large audiences; making one-on-one phone calls; helping troubleshoot obstacles to adopting clean energy strategies; coordinating with local energy contractors in providing accurate information on the programs, etc.
The Energy and Climate Equity Manager will work with team members, community groups, supervisor, and local natural resources and community energy staff members to coordinate and implement engaging educational programs, including providing training, engaging or coordinating the work of team members, volunteers and interns in program delivery. This position will also serve as a subject matter resource and carry out administrative tasks that support the educational program and fulfill funding requirements.
Required Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s Degree.
- Experience relevant to the role of the position.
- Valid Driver’s License and the ability to meet travel requirements associated with this position.
- Ability to work flexible hours which may include evenings and/or weekends, as appropriate.
- Demonstrated ability to effectively manage multiple priorities according to those set with the team and immediate supervisor.
- An earnest desire to empower households and communities to create change and a matching patience to move at the speed of trust.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Demonstrated program implementation and evaluation experience.
- Experience establishing and working with community stakeholders, especially those with limited income and living in disadvantaged communities.
- Demonstrated ability to research, plan, teach and evaluate informal educational programs through a variety of delivery methods to reach individuals and groups of diverse ages and backgrounds.
- Demonstrated ability to function as a team leader working with volunteers and staff.
- Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively through oral, written and visual means.
- Demonstrated ability to effectively utilize office software and technology for educational outreach, management, and communication purposes.
- Bilingual, fluent in English and Spanish.
POSITION DETAILS:
This position is a full-time, exempt position, 40 hours per week, 100% FTE. The annual salary for this position is $70,000.00 - $80,000.00. This position, based on eligibility, offers a comprehensive benefit package, to include: health and dental insurance, NYS retirement, vacation and sick leave.
