Sonflower Christian Preschool exists to serve the Durango area by providing a high quality Christian preschool program that partners with families to educate
the whole child- soul, mind, and body in a loving environment. Our program is faith centered, play based, and outdoor focused.

Job Summary:

The director is responsible for creating an educational atmosphere for intellectual, emotional, physical, and spiritual growth by organizing and implementing an instructional program following Sonflower Christian Preschool’s program and policies. As a preschool Director, you will play a crucial administrative role in providing
high-quality early childhood education to young learners aged 2.5 to 5 years old. Sonflower Christian Preschool is designed to be a witness of God’s love to the
community. Our hope is for the director to be intentional in creating opportunities to share the love of Jesus with students, staff, and families.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  1. Lead the program in a Christ-centered manner
  2. Model excellent professional and ethical standards
  3. Keep up-to-date with teaching curriculum, resources, and methods
  4. Assess curricular needs and make appropriate adjustments as needed
  5. Collaborate with parents and staff to achieve the greatest level of success for each child
  6. Observe and evaluate staff performance and development
  7. Assign training and development for staff as needed
  8. Maintain effective record keeping procedures following laws, district policies, and school regulations for students and staff
  9. Provide appropriate feedback for students, staff, and families on a consistent and timely basis
  10. Prepare required reports on students, staff, and program as needed
  11. Manage the day-to-day operations at the center
  12. Manage and track administrative duties like accounts payable, bank account management, filing, and records keeping
  13. Manage and oversee the budget and accounts and ensure that the center remains profitable
  14. Develop and facilitate marketing and communication plans
  15. Complete additional tasks as requested by the Sonflower Christian Preschool board

Community Duties:

  1. Establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with students, parents, staff, and the community.
  2. Participate in extracurricular activities designed to create community within the program.

Performance:

Work responsibilities are subject to an annual performance review overseen by the board. Some areas of review are as follows:

  1. Attendance and punctuality
  2. Ability to complete assignments in a timely, accurate, and thorough manner
  3. Oral and written communication with students, staff, and parents
  4. Professional and ethical behavior
  5. Personal and professional development/growth
  6. Other questions generated by the board

Technical:

  1. Large Center Director Certification.
  2. Assumes responsibility for maintaining certification according to the policies set by the State of Colorado, and the Early Childhood Council of La Plata County.
  3. Technology and equipment:
  • Microsoft Office, including Word and Excel
  • Google Docs Suite
  • Colorado PDIS and QRIS
  • Comfortable using the internet to conduct research and send/receive email.

Typical Physical Demands:

  1. Sonflower Christian Preschool spends up to 80% of the school day outside, regardless of the weather conditions.
  2. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit on the floor, kneel, squat, bend, walk, lightly jog, and occasionally lift up to 50 lbs.
  3. Tasks will require visual and auditory perception and discrimination, requiring employees to adequately see and hear.

The Director position is based on an annual assignment from July 1 – June 30 of the following year. The position is a .6 FTE, salary position based on a five-day workweek, 24 hours per week, for 12 months. The workweek is Monday through Friday. Salary will be distributed over 12 months (July to June). *The schedule may vary at different times during the school year.
