Position Purpose

Sleep Number is looking for an experienced HR Data Analyst to join our HR Operations team. The HR Data Analyst will apply their expertise to collect, compile, and analyze HR data, metrics, and statistical data to show trends and make recommendations to inform business decisions. This work is important to the overall effectiveness of the data-driven HR organization and our ability to ensure consistent employee and manager experiences company wide. This role is an ideal opportunity for a creative and analytical self-starter who has a passion for using HR data to support business outcomes, strong relationship and consulting skills, and an interest in designing and building a new HR analytics capability.

This organizational savvy person will partner across the enterprise (HR Centers of Excellence, HR Business Partners, IT, and Sleep Number's analytics community) and align key stakeholders across multiple leadership levels. The ideal candidate consistently exhibits a strategic mindset, manages complexity, instills trust in others, and operates effectively when things are not certain, or the path forward is not clear. The HR Data Analyst focuses on cultivating people data from HRIS (primarily Workday) and building capabilities for the leadership team to make strategic decisions. More specifically, this role focuses on storytelling through analytics, creating dashboards and visualizations, creating reports, presenting findings to leaders and managing our HR data governance.

Primary Responsibilities

Data analytics

  1. Develop reporting and perform analysis using data analytic tools to guide insights-driven talent strategies.
  2. Deliver strategic insights and recommendations to help develop actionable interventions that improve talent effectiveness.
  3. Incorporate key external market labor insights, benchmarking, and research into analytics.
  4. Test and audit report related configuration, troubleshoot and solution data mapping/reporting discrepancies.
  5. Develop and test hypotheses for descriptive and diagnostic analysis (what happened and why).

Data visualization and storytelling

  1. A data storyteller that gathers qualitative and quantitative data from a multitude of internal sources to inform insights, results and the employee experience from the DEI lens.
  2. Share complex data results in a format that is easily understandable for the business to tell a story and make sound decisions.
  3. Build compelling visualizations and presentations that bring data to life and drive insights home.
  4. Builds, maintains, and enhances key HR analytics dashboards that are accessible to senior HR leadership and helps to quickly evaluate trends, spot anomalies over time, highlight key summaries and draw attention to areas of focus.

Business partnering and consultation

  1. Partner closely with leaders across various functions including Human Resources, Talent Acquisition, Talent Management, Diversity, Equity, & Inclusion (DEI), HRBPs, Finance, Compensation, IT, and other cross-functional stakeholders to proactively provide business-critical HR insights through the successful delivery of reporting and analytics and consult on the applications of those insights to their business strategies.
  2. Work closely with the Corporate Data Governance group and corporate data stewards to ensure HR critical data assets are identified, maintained, and available across Sleep Number. Help resolve issues around team member data across other corporate groups.
  3. Assume additional responsibilities, and special projects, as requested.

Position Requirements

  1. 5+ years of analytics experience required.
  2. 3+ years of people data preferred (Human Resources, Talent Management, workforce analytics).
  3. Bachelor's degree (B.A., B.S.) in relevant field (e.g., Data Science, I/O Psychology, Data / Business Analytics, HR / Business Management).
  4. Advanced degree (M.A., M.S.) in relevant field is desired.
  5. Workday or other HRIS technology experience desired.
  6. Proficiency with visual analytics tools such as PowerBI, Tableau, Python.
  7. Experience with statistical software such as SPSS, R, SAS.
  8. Expert Excel skills; advanced Word and PowerPoint skills.
  9. Ability to collaborate with a team to listen carefully and interpret what is needed beyond the question directly asked.
  10. Strong mix of business and data analytics expertise, strategic thinking capabilities and project management skills.
  11. Passionate, customer-centric approach to problem solving and analytical consulting.
  12. Proven ability to use data, analytics, and business knowledge to solve complex business problems.
  13. Ability to handle confidential, sensitive HR data.
  14. Possesses high level of integrity and reliability.
  15. Displays professional demeanor with a strong executive presence.
  16. Expertise and comfort with large and imperfect data, balancing quantitative and qualitative insights.
  17. Strong skills building presentations, telling stories with data.

Working Conditions

  1. Hybrid work expected – blend of working at the office and working from home for team members within a 45-mile radius of Sleep Number’s Minneapolis office.
  2. Flexible availability required – business needs may require work during non-core business hours.
  3. Typical office environment, requiring at least 8 hours standing or sitting.
  4. May require occasional travel if residing outside of Minneapolis, MN.
