Senior Forensic Engineer
The Engineering and Construction Practice of Charles Taylor Engineer Technical Services delivers a wide range of expertise, including architectural, civil engineering, structural engineering, construction management, building envelope repair, performance testing, forensic analyses, and litigation support. The firm works primarily with clients in the construction, legal and insurance sectors, specializing in initial design and re-design of properties, forensic engineering, and construction management. Our Engineering and Construction Practice puts our knowledge and expertise to work at the beginning of building projects, working with project owners, designers, and contractors to reduce risks in the design, specification of materials and final construction that can potentially lead to construction defect litigation.
We are currently seeking Senior Forensic Engineers throughout Florida to join our team of talented professionals. Our Engineering and Construction Practice a is recognized leader in forensic expert witness and testimony for construction defect, premises liability, storm damage assessment, and construction site safety litigation cases.
Responsibilities:
  • Performs both independent and Project Management assigned duties related to the structural assessments, design compliance reports, notice of claim reports, and building envelope investigations for both commercial and residential buildings.
  • Depth of knowledge in structural and/or building envelope investigations and technical skills to drive independent analysis of single-family residences, residential development, and commercial properties.
  • Consistently act as team lead across 5-10 active projects and the in-house support specialist to coordinate tasks, provide client support or education, and educating team members, which requires the ability to teach and mentor effectively.
  • Conduct forensic field investigations into the cause and origin of incidents related to residential and commercial property damage claims and/or construction or design defect claims.
  • Prepare scopes for remediation and/or design documents for repair of existing structures.
  • Review information to investigate the standards of care pertaining to various participants involved with the design and construction of building projects.
  • Effectively communicate technical ideas and conditions in both accurate industry vocabulary and laymen's terms to a varied audience
  • Prepare clear, concise, cohesive, accurate, and defensible reports.
  • Communicate regularly and directly with a variety of clients; Manage concurrent projects with varying sizes, scopes, client types, and durations.
  • Provide deposition, mediation, arbitration and/or trial testimony.
  • Independent time management and management of deadlines.
Requirements:
  • Bachelors' degree or higher in Civil Engineering (with a Structural emphasis) or Architectural Engineering from ABET accredited school.
  • A Professional Engineer or Structural Engineer license in one or more states.
  • Possess working knowledge of engineering design and analysis, including experience as a structural engineer or an architectural engineer.
  • Direct background and experience with residential and/or commercial building forensic engineering addressing structural, building envelope and civil/grading and drainage assessments, compliance reports, claim reports and building envelope investigations. (Preferred)
  • Must be comfortable with speaking one on one with clients and to small audiences and willing and able to testify in court as required.
  • Strong knowledge of the residential (IRC), commercial (IBC) and existing (IEBC) I-codes

The duties and responsibilities of this position require the following physical capabilities:
  • Willing and able to perform observation and evaluation tasks in elevated, exposed conditions.
  • Willing and able to perform observation and evaluation tasks in narrow, shallow, or otherwise confined conditions.
  • Able to sit for extended periods as required to perform stated design, reporting, and other analysis duties.
  • Able to lift and carry 50-pounds.
