East Asia and the Pacific (EAP) Region is a large and diverse region, facing huge development challenges. Growth has been uneven across and within countries, institutions still need strengthening, and most countries are heavily affected by climate change. The Bank plays a significant role on global public goods, including climate, biodiversity, water pollution, and health. The COVID pandemic, and more recently food and energy price increases are compounding the impact of the global economic slowdown.

Job Duties and Accountabilities

The Role of the Equitable Growth, Finance, And Institutions (EFI) Practice Group:

The Equitable Growth, Finance, and Institutions Vice Presidency (EFI) is one of the World Bank Group's four Practice Groups. EFI's mandate is "Growth, Finance, and Institutions for all." EFI combines expertise in finance and private sector development, macroeconomics, fiscal policy, taxation, governance, anticorruption, procurement, and poverty among other areas. We foster private sector led growth in client countries, help create markets and jobs, improve resilience, strengthen institutions, promote equal opportunities and inclusion for all.

EFI supports clients in advancing evidence-based structural reforms to build the foundations for inclusive and sustainable growth. The incumbent will report to the EAP EFI RD, but also work closely with country teams, including on operational, analytical, and/or advisory activities.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  1. Lead or contribute to the analytical design, preparation and/or production of a range of economic policy papers, policy notes, reports, and operations;
  2. Review and provide advice and support to the Regional Director on strategic and operational matters relating to EFI's engagement in the region;
  3. Ensure that the Regional Director is briefed and informed of important issues in a timely manner;
  4. Take-on additional ad-hoc projects of a strategic or operational nature as needed.

Selection Criteria

  1. Minimum of a Master's degree in Economics, public policy, political science or related disciplines.
  2. Minimum of eight years of relevant professional experience.
  3. Strong, demonstrated technical skills and familiarity with work of EFI.
  4. Strong operational and policy dialogue skills.
  5. Strong integrative skills to support the RD in articulating its strategic thinking on economic growth and poverty reduction.
  6. Proven sense of initiative, results orientation, teamwork, and leadership qualities.
  7. Strong communication skills, including the ability to speak persuasively and to present ideas clearly and concisely.
  8. Excellent conceptual and analytical skills.
  9. Outstanding interpersonal skills.
