The Threat Mitigation Department (N922), within MITRE’s Intelligence Center, seeks a Department Principal Group Lead to advance the delivery of high quality, high impact work for our sponsors, drive innovative solutions, develop department talent, and provide thought leadership as part of the department leadership team. The Threat Mitigation Department manages, guides, and directs 30 staff-years of technical and domain-specific work focused on enhancing the nation’s counterintelligence, insider threat, and security efforts at the strategic level and providing enterprise-wide solutions to national security challenges.

The successful candidate will be an active member of the department management team that plays a key role in staff management while operating in a high-performing organization that delivers effective mission support and outcomes for our sponsors. The Principal Group Leader’s responsibilities include:

  1. First Line Supervisor - focused on staff performance management and development for a group of 6-8 staff within the Technical Counterintelligence Group.
  2. Department and Staff Engagement – Serves as direct supervisor for 8-10 staff providing technical support, conducting regular performance and development conversations; mentors, advocates, and recognizes staff; communicates with Project/Task Leaders on staff performance; assesses staff performance and provides constructive feedback to staff.
  3. Sponsor Engagement and Relations Management – Engage with sponsors to ensure mission needs are met.
  4. Technical Quality, Execution and Capability Development – Assists the Department Manager and leadership team in workforce shaping, hiring, work program development, maintaining awareness of emerging technical issues and opportunities; fulfills other Department and Division management duties as assigned.
  5. Collaboration and Communication – Supports regular communication between staff and Project/Task Leaders, serves as a proactive liaison between staff and Department/upper management, seeks collaboration opportunities across portfolios, and facilitates open sharing of program and/or technical area knowledge with other managers and staff.
  6. Individual Contributor – Actively contributes to a work program in the MNS Intel Center.

Basic Qualifications:

  1. Active TS/SCI with Polygraph.
  2. Typically requires a minimum of 10 years of related experience with a Bachelor’s degree; or 8 years and a Master’s degree; or a PhD with 5 years’ experience; or equivalent combination of related education and work experience.
  3. 4 + years of experience with leadership/team management.
  4. 2 + years at MITRE with established personal network.
  5. Extensive knowledge of the Intelligence Community with experience in the counterintelligence and/or security domains.

This position has an on-site requirement of 5 days a week on-site.

Preferred Qualifications:

  1. 5 + years at MITRE with well-established personal networks.
  2. Extensive knowledge of MITRE’s organizational structure, work programs, and Intelligence Center efforts.
  3. Strong verbal and written communications skills and the ability to communicate effectively to a variety of audiences across MITRE.
  4. Excellent interpersonal skills, discretion, diplomacy, tact, and ability to work with both the staff and MITRE leadership and external sponsors.
  5. Proven track record in managing staff to meet sponsor needs.
  6. Experience in shaping the workforce and skill mix to develop the capabilities of the staff, to include high quality hires capable of work program impact and growth.
  7. Strong writing and editing skills including demonstrated ability to articulate complex topics to sponsors and staff.
  8. Demonstrated ability to work well in collaborative and dynamic environments that foster innovation in areas that provide enhanced capabilities to MITRE’s sponsors and that result in significant operational benefit to the Nation.
