Position Summary

The Project Manager will be a part of the What’s Next Innovation department. The projects that the innovation team works on are software development projects that follow an SDLC framework and adhere to agile methodology wherever possible.

This position is responsible for leading existing and new projects through all phases of the project lifecycle: planning, requirements gathering, design, development, testing, deployment, maintenance, and retirement. In our continuous deployment environment, the project manager is responsible for soliciting and incorporating stakeholder and end user feedback throughout the course of design, development, testing, and deployment phases. The goal of the position is to achieve a high level of performance and quality, and to deliver Agile projects that provide exceptional business value to users.

The ideal candidate for this position is a results-oriented person with the ability to communicate effectively, facilitate key decision-making, and guide the engineering teams they work with to successfully deliver on commitments.

Your contributions and responsibilities

  1. Gather and document project requirements from stakeholders.
  2. Facilitate product design for new projects in conjunction with Product Manager.
  3. Champion and contribute to ongoing process improvement initiatives.
  4. Define project scope and schedule, with a focus on regular and timely delivery of business value to the project sponsor and stakeholders.
  5. Organize and lead project status and requirements/design meetings related to assigned projects.
  6. Conduct risk analysis and mitigation strategy as part of the project planning process.
  7. Identify issues and roadblocks during the course of the project lifecycle, notify appropriate stakeholders and correct deviations from project plans.
  8. Perform delivery planning for assigned projects with assistance from Product Manager where necessary.
  9. Leverage organizational resources to improve capacity for project work.
  10. Facilitate team discussions and resolve conflicts and barriers to work.
  11. Support the Product Owner in managing customer expectations for project deliverables.
  12. Manage stakeholder communications for assigned projects (status/timeline updates, user feedback, confirmation of requirements, internal departmental review, etc.)
  13. Calculate and report on project metrics, such as quality, costs, and adherence to original schedule.
  14. Work with other internal departments to ensure that required technical support and approvals are obtained in a timely manner to prevent unforeseen obstacles to the project timeline.

Your Background And Skills

  1. Knowledge of project management techniques, process flows, and technical documentation practices.
  2. Ability to inquire and gather information to understand business needs.
  3. Excellent verbal and written communication skills and the ability to translate moderately technical information to non-technical customers and stakeholders.
  4. Understanding of software development life cycle models as well as expert knowledge of both Agile and traditional project management principles and practices and the ability to blend them together in the right proportions to fit a project and business environment.
  5. Solid computer skills, including experience in Microsoft Office suite, project management software (such as Wrike, Asana, MS Project, Monday), and engineering code repository/deployment pipeline tools (GitHub or GitLab).
  6. Effective interpersonal skills including mentoring, coaching, collaborating, and team building.
  7. Solid organizational and follow-through skills, performing work accurately with strong attention to detail.
  8. Ability to meet deadlines and effectively prioritize a fast-paced and varied workload.
  9. Display effective leadership skills and ability to keep multiple team members on track.
  10. Sense of urgency and bias toward action.

Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in related area plus 3-5 years of growing project management experience in technology-focused projects with emphasis on writing project documentation (charters, requirements, stakeholder matrices, etc.). One year of experience in an agile software development environment. Certifications, such as APM, CAPM, CSM, PMP or similar are preferred.
