The SCCC department is seeking an Accountant 1. The Accountant oversees the assigned department’s internal accounting and reporting functions and assists management with all fiscal functions, including budget formulation and monitoring of accounts, to ensure compliance with University policies and warrant availability of department funds at all times.

Department Specific Functions:

  • Assist the management of the administrative and fiscal affairs of the SCCC and the Florida Cancer Data System which include compliance with the University of Miami fiscal policies and procedures, sponsored programs regulations on the management of grants and contracts. The FCDS accounts consist of State and Federal funding which need to be monitored closely for compliance with state and federal regulations.
  • Responsible for processing expenses for the division (comprised of 22 staff and faculty members). This includes but is not limited to purchase of equipment, supplies, scheduling travel arrangements, processing consulting agreements, etc. while managing and adhering to policy.
  • Reconcile the accounts in Workday verifying expenses are correct and in compliance with sponsored accounts processes.
  • Responsible for the reconciliation of accounts that require advanced skills due to the dynamics of sponsored accounts.
  • Execute retroactive transfers to correct misallocated expenditures.
  • Assist the Division administrator in account closings for the sponsored restricted accounts.
  • Assist the Division administrator in monitoring budgets, salary papers and effort reporting.
  • Adhere to Center and Institutional accounting policies and procedures.
  • Assist the Division Administrator in fiscal year closing assignments.
  • Attend Sponsored Programs trainings as needed and available to keep updated with policy and procedures.
  • Assist in the preparation for the Annual meeting, including receiving registration fees and depositing in appropriate accounts, copying & preparing packages, badges, evaluations, registration lists, etc. This includes assisting with registration at the meeting.
  • Other duties as assigned.

CORE JOB FUNCTIONS

  • Prepares balance sheets, profit and loss statements, and other financial reports.
  • Analyzes trends, costs, revenues, financial commitments, and obligations incurred to predict future revenues and expenses.
  • Reports assigned department's finances to management and offers suggestions about resource utilization, tax strategies, and assumptions underlying budget forecasts.
  • Verifies the accuracy of journal vouchers and accounting classifications assigned to various records.
  • Examines and reconciles expenditure and revenue accounts.

CORE QUALIFICATIONS

Education:
Bachelor’s degree in relevant field

Experience:
Minimum 1 year of relevant experience

Knowledge, Skills and Attitudes:
• Knowledge of generally accepted accounting procedures and principles.
• Knowledge of budget control methods, policies, and procedures.
• Ability to prepare financial and accounting records.
• Ability to analyze, consolidate, and interpret accounting data.
• Ability to compile, organize, interpret, and communicate accounting data and results concisely.
• Ability to manage a budget and work within the constraints of that budget.
