The opportunity

Southern New Hampshire University is seeking a student employee to fill the role of Peer-to-Peer Support Group Co-Facilitator for the Friends of Aine organization in Manchester, NH. This student will work with grieving children and families during the weekly peer to peer support groups. All materials for the groups are provided by the Center. Groups are broken up by developmental age and will range from 4-18 year old.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Engage the children using the curriculum that is provided each week and will have access to this curriculum on the volunteer portal prior to the groups starting.
  • Read books, help with crafts, show a video related to grief, and will help navigate conversations regarding feelings, coping strategies, etc.
  • Provide a safe space for the children and families that attend each week.
  • Lead discussions, encourage peer to peer conversations and guide children through the activity.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Current enrollment in classes as part of a SNHU degree program
  • Work study part of financial aid package
  • Students with work study may be prioritized
  • Reliable transportation
  • Compassionate heart and open mind as every child and family grieve differently
  • Pass a background check

Learning Outcomes:

Being a facilitator is very rewarding as you help the children and family build bonds and gain coping skills to help them grow and learn how to help themselves through their grief. You will also learn the power of peer to peer groups and how important they are for children.

Compensation

The hourly pay range for this position is $12.00 - $15.00. Actual offer will be based on skills, qualifications, experience and internal equity, in addition to relevant business considerations.
