Financial Assistant

The Financial Assistant provides fiscal and business operations oversight to the Department of Physics and Astronomy and the Department of Geology and Environmental Science, within the Dietrich School of Arts and Sciences, Natural Sciences Division. Primary responsibilities include management and reconciliation of all non-research accounts held by the two departments, travel coordination and reconciliation, purchasing, as well as processing University interdepartmental finance functions that include general ledger processes, creating and supplying fiscal reports, and budgetary forecasts.

Job Summary

Facilitates bill processing, expenditure tracking, and account reconciliations. Maintains effective customer service and vendor coordination, validates and enters data, performs routine analyses, and assists with administrative budgetary activities.

Essential Functions

The successful candidate will use a computer extensively. They must be capable of oral, written, and electronic communications. Must be able to sit for long periods of time and move freely about campus. In addition to a computer, they must be able to use a telephone and other general office equipment including but not limited to fax machines, photocopiers, scanners, printers, etc.

Physical Effort

This is primarily a sedentary position, but the successful candidate must be able to travel freely throughout the 5-building complex comprising the two departments and the University's main campus. The successful candidate must occasionally be able to lift up to approx. 40 lbs.
