Job Description
ASRC Federal System Solutions supports the Federal Aviation Administration National Airspace System Engineering Support Services (FAA NAS ESS) contract. Join our growing team as an Engineer Level 3 in support of the FAA’s AJW-1432 team. The AJW-1432 team provides support for the Surveillance and Broadcast Services System (SBSS). The National Airway Systems Engineering (NASE) Group, AJW-14, serves as the FAA’s premiere level Subject Matter Experts for FAA National Airspace System (NAS) systems and equipment. The National Airway Systems Engineering Group is a national organization that provides second-level engineering support that directly affects the safety of the flying public. The contractors who work under this contract have a direct impact on the NAS and their accomplishments contribute to the safest air system in the world.
Responsibilities:
National Airway Systems Engineering Group engineers serve as nationally recognized subject matter experts (SMEs) in support of assigned National Airspace System (NAS) facilities, systems, and equipment. The National Airway Systems Engineering Group has a unique organizational responsibility to formally issue changes to operational NAS systems through problem analysis, design, and implementation of hardware, software, adaptation, and technical documentation modifications. These changes result in correction of design flaws, reduction in logistics costs and field workload, new or expanded capabilities, and/or major life extension redesign.
Typical assignments may include, but are not limited to:
  • Problem identification, problem analysis, solution determination, resource identification, and cost estimation.
  • Solution design, development, integration, and testing.
  • Writing technical/management reports.
  • Creation, review, and maintenance of technical support documentation and associated directives.
  • Providing direct support in response to NAS related problems beyond the assigned repair capability of field personnel.
  • Recommending improvements to the design or operation of systems, equipment, or processes.
  • Providing SME technical support for new system acquisition efforts.
  • Performing multiple, varying, and complex assignments and planning the implementation of Projects/programs under the limited direction of a Technical Manager or more experienced engineer.
  • May act as a contributing specialist on large work activities or as a team leader for single or small work activities.
  • Will need to apply experience and advanced knowledge of engineering principles, theories, and concepts to accomplish assignments and to develop plans and techniques to improve programs and policies.
  • Will need to understand how his/her technical area interacts with, or is affected by other disciplines, and will need to consider the objectives of external organizations when developing, integrating, and implementing solutions to diverse, complex problems.
  • Will define, plan, and organize assigned resources to accomplish organizational objectives.
  • Will allocate resources to accomplish small work-activities within established schedules.
  • May act as a key technical point of contact for assigned activities.
  • Contributes to the preparation of management/technical reports, and may be called upon to communicate the overall results of a project or work activity.
  • Provides recommendations to improve work processes.
  • Provides guidance to lower-level contract staff to solve difficult technical issues.
  • Resolves all but a few unique technical problems without the intervention of contract management or a more experienced engineer.
  • Identifies and informs management of problems that require their attention.
  • Often develops and recommends techniques to address problem situations.
  • Presents complex issues that may affect the FAA’s interest to high-level functionally diverse audiences with a range of technical backgrounds.
  • Provide technical guidance in the procurement of equipment and services.
  • Provide technical assistance in the installation, operation, and maintenance of equipment and services.
  • Troubleshoot equipment failures.
  • Conduct testing of equipment and services.
  • Generate documentation for troubleshooting and maintaining equipment and services.
  • Develop, test, and deploy network configurations including routing and switching.
  • Establish and maintain equipment support facilities.
  • Assess the security status of equipment.
  • Provide on-site restoration.
  • Develop purchase descriptions for modification kits.
  • Review program-related documents.
  • Provide engineering consultations, investigations, and documentation of findings (i.e.-white papers, engineering study reports).
  • Develop briefings and presentations.
  • Create HRD/PTR documentation (hardware discrepancy report/program trouble report.
Work is reviewed periodically, and at completion, for technical compliance and alignment with the requirements of the project or other work activity. Assignments may require solutions that are to be derived by interpreting and extrapolating from situations that were faced in the past. Work activities typically support and may be vital to the success of projects or activities of one or more organizational units. In some areas, the work may affect the safety and security of customers.
Requirements
US Citizenship or Permanent Residency required. All applicants must have resided in the United States for the past 3 years .
  • Experience with various NAS facilities, systems, and equipment is highly desirable.
  • Proficient in programming languages and scripts is a plus.
  • Experience working in a team environment.
  • Good written and spoken communication including developing technical documentation.
  • Ability to pass an FAA background investigation (US Citizenship or Permanent Residency required).
Education/Experience:
  • A Bachelor of Science degree in Engineering is required. The degree must be from a school of engineering accredited by the Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology (ABET) as a professional engineering curriculum. -OR- A degree in engineering technology or in an appropriate professional field such as physics, aerospace, chemistry, computer science, or mathematics may be substituted in lieu of the engineering degree, depending on other qualifications and experience.
  • Knowledge and understanding of the importance of testing during all phases of the development process.
